Rex Sinquefield, the conservative activist who promotes school choice and seeks an end to Missouri’s income tax, has given $100,000 to St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay’s re-election campaign.

Technically, the money comes from the “Public Charter Schools of MO - East,” one of a hundred political action committees set up last year by Sinquefield.

The PAC supports Slay’s “commitment to the renewal of urban education… especially as an ardent supporter of charter schools,” according to a statement released today, and is dedicated to “bringing strong charter schools into the Saint Louis Metro Area as a key component of giving families educational options.”

“We hope that our strong support of Mayor Francis Slay,” Sinquefield said in the statement, “will help him continue his efforts to prepare Saint Louis and the region a 21st century economy.”

This is just disgusting. Mayor Slay should not take this money! But he probably will…I used to be a Slay supporter, but now I think it’s time for him to find another job.

Organize to kick him out! I believe McMillan/Green/Coleman will run against him. Who cares about money? Look at Wright-Jones vs. Hubbard. I bet our good pals at the P-D are still smarting over that one.

Exactly the kind of support the students of St. Louis need!
Charters are expanding in many areas of the country and are out performing the traditional school system. St Louis charter schools need this type of initiative.
