SLPS teacher earns orchestra’s Educator of the Year award

Congratulations to Beverly Field Whittington, a vocal music specialist who has been with St. Louis Public Schools for 28 years, who was honored last week as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra’s Educator of the Year. Whittington was nominated by the symphony’s staff and musicians who have worked with her for over two years.Whittington has taught at Ames Visual and Performing Arts Elementary School for 15 years. The students have been part of the symphony’s Adopt-a-School program, the Link Up! concert, and the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Music! Words! Opera! program. Her students have performed at venues around the city including Powell Hall, the Fox Theatre, the MUNY and the Loretto-Hilton Center.

Whittington earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of New Hampshire. She obtained her Master of Education degree and certification in Orff Schulwerk Levels 1, 2, and 3 from Webster University and completed her Dalcroze certification at Juilliard University.
