Truman State University has tapped Darrell Krueger, a former university administrator, to be its interim president.

krueger1.jpgIn the 1970s and 1980s, Krueger served as Truman’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of instruction fkrueger1.jpgkrueger1.jpgor 16 years. In 1989, he became president of Winona State University in Minnesota where he remained until his retirement in 2005.

He will replace Barbara Dixon, who announced her resignation last week after five years as president. She and the Board of Governors did not see eye to eye. But as the Post-Dispatch reported last week, the university will continue to pay her at her presidential salary level for one year to be a consultant even after her last day on Oct. 15.

Krueger will take over on Oct. 16.

In a news release, Truman State board chairman Mark Wasinger said, “We are very fortunate to have someone with such a wealth of higher education experience and a person who knows our University so well.”

The university will conduct a more extensive search to find a new president.
