A university meeting, then a Tigers game
The University of Missouri will play at home on Saturday.
The Missouri 100 — a University of Missouri group of prominent alumni and statewide leaders whose task it is to generate public support of the university — will have their annual meeting Saturday morning in Columbia. That also happens to be the same day as a Tigers home game. (The university football team, of course, is undefeated thus far.) Hmm, is this timing just a coincidence?
Nope. University system spokeswoman Jennifer Hollingshead said the meeting date was set with an eye towards having it on the same day as a home game — the same as last year. She said many of the Missouri 100 members have their own tickets to the game. But she said the university will be providing tickets to the other Missouri 100 members who don’t already have them.
But there will be business to get to before it’s time to tailgate. The Missouri 100 meeting will start at 9 .m. and last about two hours. During the meeting, they will hear about the university’s strategic plan (which is still in the works), watch a video, and listen to a panel discussion about legislative issues.
When the university scheduled the meeting, officials did not yet know what time the game would be at, so they wanted to be prepared for it to be as early as an 11 a.m. game, Hollingshead said. But it ended up being a 7 p.m. game. So there will be a big time gap between the meeting and the game.
Some Missouri 100 members have decided not to stick around for the game. Others, Hollingshead said, are planning to go out for a round of golf in the afternoon and then to come back to campus to watch the university take on Oklahoma State.
