Lou Brock to speak at Lindenwood’s commencement

If it rains at Lindenwood’s commencement ceremonies this spring, don’t be surprised if you see some Brockabrellas in the audience.

That’s right, Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock will be in the house. The storied base-stealer and former St. Louis Cardinal will be the keynote speaker at the university’s Baccalaureate and graduate commencement ceremonies on May 15. And Brenda Newberry, chair and CEO of the Newberry Group, Inc., will be the speaker at the undergraduate ceremony on May 16.

OK, so maybe all of the graduation ceremonies will be held indoors at the St. Charles Arena, so there would be no practical need for Brockabrellas (the small rain hats shaped like miniature umbrellas). But it would still be a fun way for the graduates to decorate their mortarboards.

BH the slps substitute post/blog of the day.
Subjects wish to be covered: negotiating stairwells, we need to stop shootings, student “Don”, not his real name.
Actual subjects we’ll cover due to time constraints: stairwells.
I learned the hard way (projectile to the head) that when doing stairwells, need to keep to the inside so are covered by stairwell above you so wont be hit by projectiles from above. It was something hard, and hurt, and had a little bit of ptsd that night; by the time I got up there, they were gone, and no security guard close-by (not judging, just saying). But if a little thing like personal risk will keep me away, I must not love the kids very much. First bad injury, god forbid, will reconsider. One teacher told me that one day they were throwing lighted paper down the center of the stairwell. Nice. Kids! go figure.

Well since his current wife is on the board, I would think it would be a nice fit for him…wonder if his past wives and all the kids he’s no longer involved with will be invited.

This is not a big deal, Lou lives in the neighborhood. He is a good speaker and it will be good for the grads.
