A-B strikes again with a $1 million gift to Fontbonne
The Anheuser-Busch Foundation continues to shower area universities with large gifts.
The latest one is $1 million to Fontbonne University, which announced over the weekend that it is renaming its main science building — previously known simply as, well, the “science building” — to Anheuser-Busch Hall.
Fontbonne President Dennis Golden said in a news release that this gift is one of the largest in the school’s history. And it comes in the final phase of the school’s $20 million capital campaign.
Construction is scheduled to begin this week on renovations to the science building. The plans call for adding new biology and dietetics labs, upgrading classrooms, a modernized greenhouse, a state-of-the-art business conference room, a business library, and a new student lounge.
Other recent gifts by A-B include: $1 million to Harris-Stowe State University for scholarships, $250,000 to College Bound, $2.5 million toward a new business administration building at UMSL, and $3 million to SLU to help the school expand its law school.

Isn’t that just great that A-B continues to give away money to schools, etc. yet they (A-B) won’t take care of their retirees - over the past several years they continue to raise the amounts of our co-pays and have increased the percentage we have to pay for our health insurance - and will eliminate our health insurance completely after 2010 - They force you to retire early or else, and now take away healthcare coverage - some of us won’t even be elibible for Medicare - might as well just shoot us Mr. Busch! Management always makes sure they get their big fat bonuses at the end of the year.
I quit drinking A-B products and encourage others to do the same.
