Wanted: School board candidates in Missouri
Given the current economic outlook, school boards will probably face tough choices in the coming year.
Check out the ad at the left from the Missouri School Boards’ Association looking for people to run in the spring election.
For those who are up for the job, the first day of candidate filing for the April school board elections is Dec. 16 for most school districts in Missouri. Filing closes for all school districts on Jan. 20.
A candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a resident taxpayer of the district, a resident of Missouri for one year and at least 24 years old. Terms are three years.

I would love to run, but my local school board members are appointed by the state… I would love to make a change!!!
It is a shame that another opportunity to engage and move our young people forward has only been given one year to do so. I support traditional public education, I support the desegregation education(formerly against it)homeschooling, private schools and charter schools. I believe that most charter schools are not making the grade because our leaders do not engage individuals who are not interested in politcal,economic and popular recognition. Bringing in outsiders for the financial assistance is a good thing but our leaders need to engage those who truly have the hearts and souls of our children as the number one priority. There are individuals who have not been engaged in building a strong board of individuals who have an investment in the young lives they are to be stewards over. Having individuals on the board who can oganize the curriculum, the before school and afterschool activities, the fundraisers, oversee nutritional meals, providing clothing that is appropriate and cost efficient to parents. But most of all there has to be a leader who will be willing to go to any means necessary to ensure the safety of the student population, staff, to earn the respect of the student population, respect of staff, support of parents who can and know how to be supportive of the program and to be able to bring on board the parents who have not been able and do not know how to be supportive and be responsible for the use of tax payers dollars.
