Mehlville board member kept kids home to listen to Obama speech
Just one more note on Obama’s message to U.S. schoolchildren, delivered yesterday.
Karl Frank, a board member at the Mehlville School District in south St. Louis County, decided to keep his kids home from school yesterday to watch the speech, as a consequence of the district’s decision not to air the address live.
He wrote a letter to district administrators and fellow board members Saturday. Here is a portion of it:
I understand that this was a hard decision for the administration to make, and I am writing to let you know that I do not hold it against the administration. These are difficult decisions to make and I know you made it with our community’s best interest at heart.
I believe the drama of the moment is just as important as the message, which is why I have made this decision. How exciting is it to watch game seven of the World Series on tape the next day? There is something about the moment that makes it special. At that time, the President of the United States will experience a shared moment with millions of students around the country and I want my kids to be a part of it.
Sincerely,
Karl

Did Frank actually keep his kids home? Stay tuned.

Just like the Armageddon that would befall us in the year 2000, the speech that was suppose to indoctrinate our youth. Now who was spreading the baseless lies…..hmm…..oh ya, “Fake News”. Is anyone real surprised? Too funny.
Is it really that important to keep your children home from school for such a speech? Yes, it was great and I agree with everything Obama had to say. However, I do not agree with the decision to give your children the choice to skip acedemics in order to see a speech that could be seen a few hours later without interferring with their education. Although the speech itself is giving the message to the children that THEY are responsible for their education, don’t you think the parents (especially a SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER) would be responsible enough to rear the child in the most responsible direction? I do not believe this was the right direction.
It was a great speech, now the wingnuts are floating their version of what they feared the speech would be. Always good for a laugh.
I think it was a good decision to make. People keep they’re kids out of school for personal beliefs, vacations, take your kids to work days, skip days, and any other reason they can think of. At least this had a value to it!
