I don’t know that you can blame the collapse of the housing market entirely on President Bush. But he sure does provide a nice distraction. Why in the world Rev Wright is pertinent to the national political discussion is totally over my head. Republicans have dealt with right wing whacko preachers like Pat Robertson for years and gotten a free pass.
As someone who is selling his house this year, I’m much more interested in fixing the housing market!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reverend Wright is getting the publicity because he has been the pastor of Mr Obama for 20 years. I personally get more concerned when I read the comments of Michelle Obama.
As a retired commercial banker I place the housing crisis principally at the feet of the financial institutions ant the respective regulators. However all the politicians are guilty of encouraging the mortgage frenzy o f the past 5-10 years forgetting that people had to service the debt.
If you have done any travelling in Las Vegas and Miami as I did recently you know that there was rampart speculation going on fueled by easy money in04-06 and the meltdown will be harsh!

Is all this about the Rev. Wright or about the housing crisis?
As for Rev Wright… what’s not to like? If you are a Republican. Rev Wright has given up commercial topics for the whole of the election. He did more to bring Obama back to earth in a week than either Hillary or Rush could in 6 months.
As for housing… there is no crisis… none.

I wish someone on the left would explain something for me. When Pat Robertson or some other conservative Christian assures us that 9/11 or some natural disaster to be God’s judgement on America for tolerating homosexuality, non-marital sex or some other aspect of modern life, the media jumps all over them. When Wright does the same thing only insert racism, sexism, national violence or some other leftist cause, the media bends over backwards to defend him, claiming this is part of the black church “prophetic tradition” or some such garbage as that.
The Platform is where you can take a stand on any issue. You can agree with or fire back at Post-Dispatch opinions. You can chat with or challenge an editorial board member directly. Here are the ground rules: Bring your A-game. Keep your facts straight. Talk about issues, not personalities.
Eddie Roth writes about education, social justice, public safety, transportation, legal affairs and historic preservation. He joined the Post-Dispatch editorial page in 2008 after six years as an editorial writer with the Dayton Daily News. But he is not new to St. Louis. Eddie grew up in Webster Groves and south St. Louis County. He's a lawyer who for many years practiced with a downtown firm, and was active in civic affairs, including serving a term on the St. Louis Police Board. He and his wife, Jeanne, and their three daughters, Emily, Julia and Alice, live in the Shaw Neighborhood.
When it comes to community organizing, he endorses Quentin Crisp's advice: Rather than keeping up with the Joneses, it's better to pull them down to your level.
