“Dems split on whether party is divided, energized” reports the Associated Press.

Can’t these people agree on anything?

Geez, give it a couple days at least. Taking a poll immediately after does not tell you what is going to be the attitude once everyone has had a chance to rest up.

I am certain if you ask enough disappointed supporters of Senator Clinton how they feel, the result may tend to favor the “downcast and frustrated” category. By the same token if you were to ask supporters of Senator Obama the same question, the result may favor “upbeat and energized”.

This is “news”?

Democrats, by their very nature, will never be totally unified. There are too many factions. A party made up of blacks, women, environmentalists, gays, unions, the poor, students, Southern “Blue Dog” conservatives, and assorted smaller minorities and interest groups will always be somewhat divided. You can’t possibly make all of them happy- though Obama will try.

Republicans, on the other hand, only have two factions: the rich and the evangelical conservatives, neither of whom particularly trust McCain.

Both Obama and McCain have their work cut out for them if they want to unify this country out of the mess that George W has made.

Conservatives (who don’t all bill themselves as Republicans) have far more interests than just wealth and evangelism. Many are staunchly pro-life and favor strong law enforcement, smaller government, no taxation without representation, and the constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms.

The NRA, with over four million members, and similar groups of police, military, and sportsmen and women are very serious voters. They have many Democrat and Independent members. Democrat political leaders would love to silence them, but mostly have to do that covertly.

Two very conservative personal friends have held or have run for political office on the Democratic ticket, where that’s the only way to get in. One has held office for years. They both come from military families (one is a retired general) and both are strongly pro-life.
