Health care: Strong and foolish
Nancy Pelosi had strong comments about the public option today.
I hope she prevails.
Tom Daschle talks like a liberal but works like a lobbyist. He’s working behind the scenes to kill health care reform.
And The Wall Street Journal gets right to the point with this fantastic headline: Whole Foolishness.
And bad news for health care reform is good news on Wall Street.

I truly feel that it is IMMORAL for people to profit and Capitalize on life saving and other needed medical services that are needed by human beings. I am all for Capitalization but where it concerns the medical care and quality of healthcare for human beings, bottom line profits are an IMMORAL CONSIDERATION!
Nancy Pelosi… isn’t she the one that called us “un-American” for simply expressing dissent?
I have the solution. I would agree to trade the left wing the public option in exchange for a public medical malpractice legal sytem. That is, all malpractice claims would be prosecuted by public lawyers and the 33.3% of any award against a doctor, hospital, drug or device would be put back into the healthcare fund to pay for healthcare. I am willing to discuss non-profit legal co-operatives, as long as they are a foot-in-the-door for a total public legal system. I know some will say that plaintiffs will have to wait often months to file their frivolous suits, but this is only fair that everyone share the pain.
That sounds like an interesting idea JJK. Unfortunately, all of the other Republicans are trying to kill any kind of health care reform, so your idea is DOA.
If Democrats back off of the public option then they are too weak and wimpy to control anything in Washington and are much too ill equipped to handle the schemes on the Right.
It is just like the Iraq War, most Democrats were weak and showed no backbone. If they can’t handle this health care issue, which was Obama’s platform, but where the single payer system was on the table and where that is completely gone now.
If the Democrats do not have the know how and strength to stand up to those politicians both Democrats, by the way, is a dirty, dirty shame, and Republican who are in the pockets of insurance companies, I think that we should turn it all back over to those greedy big business whores on the Right.
Those on the Right are once again leading our citizens to the slaughter and Democrats are being too weak to put up a big enough fight to counter act this evil. They took single payer off the table and if they take the public option off, then, they have played right into the devil’s hands and are way too weak to lead this country anywhere, even to hell even if that was is the desire.
Its too bad that the devil tempted Adam with an apple and not a joke.
Wow! Jamie just admitted that she is a Democrat.
I don’t understand the logic behind the public option. It isn’t an option. It will end up being one of the following: a death sentence for many private businesses; a wasteful government program that will consume trillions of tax dollars with lousy results. Knowing how well government operates, which do you think it’ll be?
Democrats don’t want most Americans to chip in, so businesses and the most successful will be taxed to death, then taxed again. Rates will go up and more corners cut as private insurance gets hit with more taxes, more law suits and more regulation.
It doesn’t take a postal employee to realize that government run entities suck. To fix what is wrong with health care, the government needs to increase private competition, reduce unnecessary costs (law suits for profit) and get out of the way.
This is so elementary. You have to have a political agenda if you think otherwise.
I can’t wait to see NP’s ‘keeping honest’ play out on the public option side (as they expand the public side – as if we don’t already have a public option). Because, we all know, anything involving government and trillions is always squeaky clean. These things necessarily degenerate into looting & special favors, because that’s what they are at their foundation.
Corporate America owns a lot of congressional lawmakers so it’s no surprise. They also have a major media outlet in Rupert Murdoch’s empire which includes the Wall Street Journal. Any Health care reform that might take a bite out of corporate America’s profiteering and corrupution will be hard to get around. The real reform should start with campaign finance, currently known as bribes for favors, ie, he who has the most money wins.
Now that word is being put out that the “public option” may be taken off the table, you will now see the numbers change in support of the “public option” because truthful information will now hit the public in a big way.
There are more reasonable people than the irrational “Opposers” that we have been witnessing making so much noise, causing so much confusion. The Democrats failed to take a proactive role in talking up “ALL THE BENEFITS TO AMERICAN CITIZENS” that are the goal of the “Public Option” parts of HR 3200. The democrats should have been doing this from the very moment after they were in office and at the latest immediately after those who oppose the public option began to attempt to sabotage it with LIES that they were putting out to the public.
Now just watch how the numbers change with the truthful information, even though LATE. Health Insurance Company money will not be worth one Democratic lost seat.
The insurance companies will lose this battle because they are the ones behind the pundits who have gotten all the irrational loud people worked up who are so very vulnerable and so easy to lead into their scheme of things. Just listen to most of them, they rarely make sense and have been so vulnerable to lies that are able to be so easily recognized by others.
Then there are others who are operating purely from what is within their dirty small hearts.
I know this will destroy the Democratic Party if they do not come through on this for the people who they promised this. It will not be worth it to one Democrat if they do not. I will be finished with them if they do not correct all the wrong moves that they have made here concerning this bill and the “public option”.
