Women should be fighting to kick insurance companies out of health care
This helps explain why we need health care reform in this country.
From the blog, womenstake.org:
“Nope, we won’t take her.” This is what insurance companies in Florida said when asked whether they would provide insurance coverage to a hypothetical applicant who had survived rape.
Nice.
Here are three other recent examples of insurance companies doing the wrong thing:
From Fox news, a baby was denied coverage for being too heavy.
From forums.nurse, a toddler denied coverage for being underweight.
From U.S. News & World Report, women being denied coverage for having been victims of domestic violence.
Why is we’re protecting insurance companies?

Jamie Riley is the P-D letters editor and gatekeeper of the letters blog. Before joining the editorial page in May 2005, she was a reporter and page designer. Jamie lives in University City with her husband, Charles, daughter, Elise, and the world's best Jack Russell terrier, Logan, better known as Stinky.
There have also been scores of anecdotal examples of government health care atrocities in the UK, Canada, and other countries without private insurance.
So, women should also be fighting to kick government out of health care, right Jamie?
By the left’s figures, more than 250 million people are covered by health insurance in the United States. About half, or 125 million, are women. You’ve come up with four cases to complain about. May we assume that the other 124,999,996 people are happy? If so, why not just fix things for the four people with a problem? Seems like the enemy of good insurance coverage for women is YOU.
What are ther 240,000,000 people covered by insurance today? Pick any number if mine is not correct. Let’s just say you find a 1,000 of these cases that are examples of Healthcare that need to be addressed or fixed. That’s what? .000004%? That gives cause to throw the whole system out? I love the baby and toddler part. Great heart strings approach. But since we’re on the weight issue. How many 350 pound plus people are you willing to let the Govt. run option cover? People that have the self control to maintain a healthy lifestyle should have to pay for those that choose to not get off their buts and do something? Those that refuse to push themselves away from the buffet? Will you cover those evil smokers? Drug addicts? What and where is their responsibility? I look forward daily to the new angle this paper presents in order to justify Govt. Run healthcare. I would give anything to be able to read these editorials if the bill was to have Govt run newspapers. And with the way they have blackballed fox news I would say that’s not impossible. The shameless part is because it’s not a liberal outlet like this paper CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC and CNN none of you have the guts to even say anything. I look forward to when it is your ox being gored and then listen to the cries of unfairness.
By the way San Fran Nan says there’s no need to require the bill be posted 72 hours before the vote. How can anyone ANYONE support that. Especially this paper that loves the FOIA. I mean… it’s not like Harry and Nancy would hide anything would they?
Nick Nick Nick what could you possibly be thinking? One person being treated unfair is too many. Where is your compassion?
Why does everyone for the “public option” seem to think the government won’t turn anyone down for medical care and they’ll just let everyone get any kind of treatment they would like? How many government agencies have been known for any of the following: efficiency, kindness, intelligence, couth, problem solving skills, common sense? Think about the following agencies and you tell me how cooperative the federal government is when there is a problem or conflict - IRS, SS Administration, Medicare/Medicaid, Post Office, Federal Job Bank, etc.
WTF are you idiots thinking? Either you are retarded or you haven’t ever dealt with the Federal Government or you would know this health care plan is a disaster waiting to happen.
Seriously - if the federal government can’t handle paying dealerships involved with the Cash For Clunkers program, they how are they going to handle health insurance payments and records for 280 million people in the United States. It’s called rationing, waiting for medical care, and gobs of paperwork for routine medical procedures.
We protect insurance companies because the Republican Party is their wholly owned subsidiary and whatever insurers want, the GOP gets or stops what insurers don’t want. That’s why the GOP has the lowest ever party ID ever.

They thought the gender gap was big in 2008, wait ’til 2010!
Perhaps health care for women/children looks the way it does because of men.
The comments, by men, so far - have shown them to be totally incapable of making a medical decision that involved - simple decency and compassion; unfortunately, this is not new or shocking.
The ugliness spewed against women is nothing new for this type of man.
Ever since Eve put on a pair of high heels these Neanderthals having been attempting to push her down.
But now these - real- men think that by talking tough and using words such as ‘retarded’, they are presenting valid discussion points.
Jamie - maybe you should have asked, only the women, to comment…
A for-profit insurance company will do anything they want–because they can. The executives of a for-profit insurance company will continue to get bonuses for turning people down–because they can. That is the nature of “business”. Therefore, the solution is to eliminate for-profit insurance companies by making them unprofitable through the inception of a public option.
Gaucho, don’t worry, you can stick with one for-profit insurer after another as they fall like dominoes. Nobody will force you to receive healthcare through the public option.

In the century since the rights of women to vote were acknowledged the federal bureaucracy has devolved from constitutional duties of governance to personal and emotional goals of “simple decency and compassion.” Emotions have displaced practicality throughout federal government.
Demonstrate your decency and compassion through personal, voluntary, acts and religious, charitable, or philanthropic engines. Using government to force others to provide for your altruism demonstrates tyranny, not decency.
Unless collectivist women, and men alike, stop trying to fulfill their emotional needs with the awesome powers of government you will eventually be responsible for the destruction of the greatest political system the world has ever known. You should be taking no self righteous pride in that, madam.
A Big Thank You TO/ Cecily and Tim Hogan,
for laying out the problems we face in our Health Care system.
We are one of the few “Industrialized Nations’ that have a For Profit Health Care system.
This unacceptable level of greed has helped to give rise to an unsustainable scenario in which the wealthiest country in the world has one of the lower levels of care given to its citizens.
The lack of competition due to the ‘locks’ established by the GOP,has succeeded in rates and costs that have demolished out health network.
It is NOT a complicated issue - these perimeters were put in place by the GOP, maintained by them, until this point, when the GOP no longer has the power, nor the public support, to continue them.

The comments by - A#,
are more than unfortunate, they represent a mentality that has gotten us into this nightmare position.
That anyone, anyone, would make a corollary between the chronological point of women gaining political emancipation and the weakening of the constitutional duties of government, is not just absurd, but exhibits the continuing misogyny still evident in the GOP, and many Fundamentalist religions.
I will not grant stature to such archaic ‘thoughts’ by debating them.
Indeed, no morally sound individual would ever present such arguments.
What I would like to point out is that A#, is not too clever in his use of semantics.
The use of the word ‘emotion (s)’ to debase females is certainly not new, not original, NOR is it demeaning.
Those without ‘emotions’ are classified as sociopaths.
That fact tells us all we need to know about the writer, A#.

America is on the verge of loosening its
yoke of servility to the insurance corporations.
I know without question, that we will succeed and begin our climb back from the abysses.
The bloggers who are against this reform are without shame.
We need to make sure that we continue our vigilance in the struggle for human rights, for without that, we can just as easily slip back into their dark netherworld.
P.S. On a lighter note, Ladies, I suggest that we
‘Man our High Heels’, evidently there is much work to be done!
