What is there to discuss? The clip displayed the two sides to fighting terrorism, the law enforcement side vs the intelligence side. Matthews’ (Thrill up my leg)example of Sirhan Sirhan is perfect, yes, he is in jail and will be for the rest of his life, but law enforcement didnt stop his crime, it responded to it. The Intelligence side is proactive, stopping attacks before the happened instead of waiting for an attack then responding to it. Imagine if we could have gotten to Sirhan BEFORE he committed his crime……

Si,
That’s non-sense. So what are you saying, sacrifice all the innocent people who are not terrorist for the sake of maybe capturing one? Of course that is what you are saying and believe as many of your same stripes but that is not only IMMORAL but also DANGEROUS. IT PLACES THIS COUNTRY AT GREATER RISKS DUE TO SEETHING HATE FROM THE WORLD. Hate for cause, and YES, we are giving the world cause a valid reason to hate us. Now, remember this culture’s belief is not to be as Christ. And we are not living as Christ neither with such torture prisons.
And please before you go there as you always do, lets not bring up abortion as a response to this because every Christian and moral person know their PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES concerning any child within their womb. God deals with their conscience concerning these things. And the immoral has no conscience concerning the things of God including morals.
Just as we can’t expect government to behave as Christ because we know that this is never going to be the case according to Scripture. All present governments today are and will always belong to (who), according to Scripture? And will not change until (who) returns?
But, as a government we can strive to force certain conduct through laws that effect public health and safety. So aside from any moral reasons for not torturing human beings, IT’S NOT IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THIS COUNTRY OR ITS PEOPLE, it’s dumb.
Like the death penalty, it is an immoral act for anyone to take a life that is not a immediate threat to you. Our government justifies the death penalty as punishment, or is it for public safety reasons, I am not sure to be frank the punishment part is immoral and the public safety part is not true. The death penalty is non-sense on both fronts because it does not deter such crimes in society and on the other front because people who commit such crimes have seared minds and there is nothing that can be done to prevent one’s with seared minds from committing evils and that is why they continue to happen without determents. Only by the Spirit of God can a person not develop a seared mind and only by the Spirit of God can a seared mind be made right.
As for as innocent individuals, it is never okay to punish innocent people for crimes that they are not guilty of. IT IS NOT IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFTTY BECAUSE IT BREEDS DESTRUCTIVE KINDS OF ANGER TOWARDS US.
Are we getting to a point in this country where people who live in fear are willing and think that it is okay to punish people that they suspect may be capable of committing crimes before they commit one?

” So what are you saying, sacrifice all the innocent people who are not terrorist for the sake of maybe capturing one?”
No, you ignorant dolt, what I am saying is it does no good to track suicide bombers AFTER they attack, it is much more beneficial to know about them and their plans BEFORE they go meet allah.
“Of course that is what you are saying and believe as many of your same stripes but that is not only IMMORAL but also DANGEROUS.”
Dont even pretend you know a damn thing about me.
“IT PLACES THIS COUNTRY AT GREATER RISKS DUE TO SEETHING HATE FROM THE WORLD. Hate for cause, and YES, we are giving the world cause a valid reason to hate us.”
D-, didnt you get the memo, we elected Barack Hussein Obama, the world LOVES us now.
“Now, remember this culture’s belief is not to be as Christ. And we are not living as Christ neither with such torture prisons.”
Is it Christ like to blow ones self up with the purpose of killing innocents? Because that is a terrorist trademark.
“And please before you go there as you always do, lets not bring up abortion as a response to this because every Christian and moral person know their PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES concerning any child within their womb. God deals with their conscience concerning these things. And the immoral has no conscience concerning the things of God including morals.”
Ok, I’ll just leave the moral equivalence stuff to you. You claim to be abortion, so how do you feel about the President allowing our foreign aid to be spent on abortions?
“But, as a government we can strive to force certain conduct through laws that effect public health and safety.”
Not sure what seat belt laws have to do with terrorism, but preach on Preacher man!
“So aside from any moral reasons for not torturing human beings, IT’S NOT IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THIS COUNTRY OR ITS PEOPLE, it’s dumb.”
You forgot it is effective when done by professionals, and used very rarely. But I fail to see how failing to protect us from future terrorist attacks is in our best interest.
“The death penalty is non-sense on both fronts because it does not deter such crimes in society”
Studies show it is a deterrent.
“As for as innocent individuals, it is never okay to punish innocent people for crimes that they are not guilty of. IT IS NOT IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFTTY BECAUSE IT BREEDS DESTRUCTIVE KINDS OF ANGER TOWARDS US.”
D-, remember, the world loves us now, we elected Obama! As far as punishing innocents, I dont think those who take up arms against the US are as innocent as you claim. Those who desire to destroy the US are hardly innocent

Here in lies the key, you and Chrissy Matthews think of terrorism as a crime, not an act of war.

Si,
Terrorism is war? A great big buzz for you being INCORRECT!
Isn’t a WAR between country/government and where TERRORISM is the unlawfulness of individuals and groups of people (private citizens of countries but not the actual government)? Terrorists are kind of similar to gangs and mobsters? Don’t you think, more so than governments and countries. (lol).
And just read what you say, you support torture, false imprisonment and finding people guilty of crimes even though you would incorrectly state, guilty of war, (lol), WITHOUT AFFORDING THEM A RIGHT TO PROVE THEIR INNOCENT. This type injustice against those who are innocent amounts to how Jesus was treated unjustly.
Boy, all you ones who think that this is right should be very concerned about these sort of evils coming back unto you in some way.
Opps, did Sen Bond forget that there’s a prison in Springfield (Budget $62 Million) that has housed the Blind Cleric (for bombing the WTC) and others involved in terror activities. Does he want to close this facility and ship these inmates offshore? Which side of his mouth is he speaking from??

All of you need to stay focused on the discussion. We are debating whether closing Guantanamo Bay is a good idea or a bad idea. We are not discussing whether due process should be afforded those held there, so named “unlawful combatants.” The Supreme Court has already settled that discussion. We are not discussing how whether we should live as Christ lives. We are not discussing the morality of torture. We are discussing whether the closing of Gitmo is good or bad.
There are two sides to that discussion. I think Sen. Bond presents a decent point that certain jurisdictions within our Nation do not want these individuals incarcerated “in their backyard.” Further, we should also consider what may happen to the “unlawful combatants” in our prison system. There is a substantial and legitimate fear that prisoners will kill those who were once detained at Gitmo.
From a safety perspective, it is irrelevant to me whether they are housed in Cuba, in Kansas, in Iceland, or wherever. The underlying issues remain the same and are unaffected by the closing of Gitmo.
The strongest argument for closing Gitmo is this: It is symbolic of a shift for the US Government. We are transitioning from the Bush presidency to the Obama presidency. All of the bad things which transpired there will forever be in the past. The specter of inhumanity will be lifted.
The Platform is where you can take a stand on any issue. You can agree with or fire back at Post-Dispatch opinions. You can chat with or challenge an editorial board member directly. Here are the ground rules: Bring your A-game. Keep your facts straight. Talk about issues, not personalities.
Eddie Roth writes about education, social justice, public safety, transportation, legal affairs and historic preservation. He joined the Post-Dispatch editorial page in 2008 after six years as an editorial writer with the Dayton Daily News. But he is not new to St. Louis. Eddie grew up in Webster Groves and south St. Louis County. He's a lawyer who for many years practiced with a downtown firm, and was active in civic affairs, including serving a term on the St. Louis Police Board. He and his wife, Jeanne, and their three daughters, Emily, Julia and Alice, live in the Shaw Neighborhood.
When it comes to community organizing, he endorses Quentin Crisp's advice: Rather than keeping up with the Joneses, it's better to pull them down to your level.
