Missouri insurance shoppers should check out complaints database
If you’re in the market for insurance, you might want to check out the latest complaint data filed with the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registrations.
At the agency’s online database, consumers can search more than 10,000 complaints against more than 600 insurance companies doing business in Missouri. Consumers can get detailed information about a particular company, including the most common reasons for complaints; or users can see how different firms stack up.
Each company listed in the database is assigned a complaint index number. A high index figure means a high percentage of complaints, a low number means lots of satisfied — or, at least, quiet — customers and an index score of 100 means the firm gets an average number of complaints.
Here is another nifty feature to the agency’s web site: consumers can verify whether an agent or insurance company is licensed to do business in Missouri, as required by state law.
