From Chas Beat blog: Possible curb-painting scam in St. Peters
According to Chas Beat, the Post-Dispatch blog about St. Charles County, St. Peters officials want city residents to know it has nothing to do with fliers offering to paint “night vision address numbers” on the curbs in front of homes.
From Friday’s blog item, written by cops and courts reporter Shane Anthony:
The warning followed complaints from residents about fliers like this one that appeared on doors this week. The fliers asked residents to fill out name and address information so “night vision address numbers” could be painted on their curbs. The cost was $20 with a 10 percent discount for senior citizens…
The flier said “Neighborhood Enhancement Program” across the top, which could have misled some residents into believing the city was behind the effort, said spokeswoman Lisa Bedian. The fliers claimed to be from MB Painting.
No phone number or address was listed for the company, and Bedian said the company does not have a license to do business in St. Peters.
While there are probably some legitimate curb painters out there, there definitely are lots of hucksters. Often, they paint addresses on the curb without permission and then try to shake down property owners into paying them after the fact.

I remember when the boy scouts would do this. I think they were trying to gain a curb painting badge of some sort. But at least they asked permission first.
Business license? Is that why young teens don’t come ringing our door bell or leaving flyers in my door seeking to cut our lawn anymore for years now?
Gee, I thought that kids had just become to lazy to earn extra money cutting grass. I sure miss them.
How can they shake down property owner after painting street/curb without owner’s request or consent?
