Has Charter falsely accused you of stealing cable?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
A reader complained that he recently found a flier hanging from the knob of his front door that accused him of stealing cable. Here’s what it said:
During a check of our cable television lines, we discovered your residence is receiving services that are not in your current subscription plan. Based on this information all unauthorized services have been disconnected. If there is an error in our records, please call the number below and we will correct the matter immediately.
The reader said that, when he called Charter Communications to protest his innocence, a representative from the cable company quickly launched into sales mode and gave him the hard sell on a bundled cable-Internet-phone package.
The accused thinks the fliers are just a gimmick to generate sales leads. Perhaps, or maybe the Charter worker hanging the fliers just goofed up. One way to find out for sure is to see if there’s a pattern of this sort of thing. Have you recieved one of these Charter fliers or otherwise been falsely accused of stealing cable? If you have, I’d like to hear from you. Comment below or e-mail me at mhathaway@post-dispatch.com.

Well, I’ve had charter for about 8 yrs now, its never went down for me and worked even during the power outage a few years back. I get the basic tv for 13.00 a month and the internet at 40. a month. I wished charter would get rid of the infomercial and “dead channels”. They say you get 27 channels but really its just crap nobody would want to watch anyway. I would like to see at least one 24 hour news channel on basic. Another issue is the internet is advertised at 5 or 10 Mps but many time the video streamming of newsclip and the like constantly stop with the spinning circle of dots. When the connection is tested it definitly is not recieving anything even close to 5 or 10 Mps. Most times not even 700K.
Overall though, i like charter internet because the surfing is quite fast.
Customer service is bad. I called a number of times but every time I call, Ihave to listen to tape recorder until someone picks up. Then after talkin for about 30 seconds the tape recorder cuts us off to ask all the same questions over again! This repeats everytime I call. I ask charter to call me back to get around this probem but the girl told me she can’t call me back–its against policy! I was trying to upgrade my service! Still can’t get through–ever!! And they will not call me back! FRUSTRATING!!
I found this blog searching about illegal cable hookup b/c i’m so tired of finding it all over the place (i’m a cable tech). Has anyone considered that part of Charter’s money problems could be due to so much lost revenue b/c of illegal cable. One company who services about 550,000 customers did an audit of their lines and found over 100,000 illegal hook-ups! How much money does that add up to? Who knows, but I’ll say this: I think that flyer is pretty generous. If I were in charge and I was losing that much money from low-life thieves, I’d be throwing rocks through their windows as I cut the lines from thier houses…
