Football recruiting: P-D’s Super 30 Juniors

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I had a couple people ask me about the Post-Dispatch’s Super 30 list that I referenced in the Jack Meiners story this morning. The list was compiled by Nate Latsch, a prep writer who has been working on St. Louis recruiting for many years, and was published in February.

I thought I’d post it here to give people a look at who the P-D thinks are some of the top kids in the St. Louis area juniors. This is pretty accurate since most of our prep writers have seen these guys play in person at one point or another. No surprise that Missouri has offers out to quite a few of them. The gold are players have already committed to Mizzou.

Would love to see MU get Bryant Allen in either football or basketball. Sounds like Darris Ford likes MU a lot, hopefully he’ll pull the trigger soon. It would be awesome to see all top ten play for MU, the Tigers would be good for a long time if that happened.

Most of these guys talk to each other, I wonder if they ever talk about the possibility of all committing to MU and dominating the Big 12 together.

I thought that Monte Ball and Jordan Webb had already commited. If true, we don’t get the top 10

is this list put together by Danny Heitert who does the Top Tens during the Fall? I totally trust those rankings in the Fall. If this is not Danny Heitert’s list, who put this together? Thanks.

Webb committed to Kansas, but Ball is still on the hook. I talked to Webb and he’s pretty solid to KU. I’m not sure he was going to get an offer from MU anyway.

Henry Rowengartner,

I don’t think Mizzou has much interest in Bryant Allen for basketball, which is a shame because he’s a perfect fit for Mike Anderson’s system. Anderson is apparently recruiting several other point guards, including Michael Dixon from the KC area.

larry_jost,

This is not a list from Danny Heitert, though I did talk with him about these kids before the P-D ran the list. Danny does a great job with his lists. He and I disagree from time to time on certain kids, but we agree quite a bit and share insights on kids who may catch our eye for some reason or another.

But these lists are far from perfect. If you go back and look over Super 30 lists from the past, you’ll see some kids who never made it ranked above kids who went on to play in the NFL.

I would think that the top two are Illinois to lose at this point and maybe if they can draw in Wingo also. They need a all-star back in this class and I think they have a great selling point telling these kids they want them to be the next Mendenhall. I think Illinois gets the top two, maybe wingo, and if not wingo then Oku from oklahoma.

The list looks good and pretty accurate. MU will probably end up with 5-6 of these kids. Tabash is good but not might be athletic enough for the spread type offense. Still has a year to improve. A smart kid that I know is getting looks from all the IVY schools as well as Stanfrod and Vanderbilt.

I’d be happy if Mizzou got 4 out the top 10, i’d really like to see the guys from E. St. Louis come on board. Two top receivers like that could be solid. But I really think more than receivers Mizzou needs a 5 star running back. We need someone to balance the pass attack–Temple wasn’t that person last year. If we had a top running back last year we would have been plaing for the NC.
