Spring practice ends…
The six weeks of spring practice came to an end Thursday with “Funky NFL Day” as coach Gary Pinkel likes to call it. The players dress in the jerseys of other players (making it nearly impossible to know who’s who) and a pair of basketball shorts of their choosing. The hour-long practice was spent running the same drills the team would use on a typical gameday.
Since the practice was short, there’s very little to report except the attire. Colin Brown, a
6-foot-8 offensive lineman looked like Baby Huey in 5-foot-9 Jimmy Jackson’s jersey. Quarterback Chase Daniel was sporting Dominic Grooms No. 5 and Grooms repayed the favor by wearing No. 10.
Receiver Tommy Saunders broke out his game jersey from two seasons ago, and William Moore color-coded the shirt underneath his black jersey with the red and black in his shorts.
Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was wearing Marquis Booker’s jersey.
All fascinating, I know, but really, there wasn’t much else to watch.
As reported yesterday, Austin Wuebbels did not attend practice. He will not play in the spring game.
The ESPNU folks were in the locker room doing one-on-one interviews, so those of you not in attendance for the Black and Gold game on Saturday will probably see those throughout the game. But it’s supposed to be nice weather, so there really no reason not to come out. Weatherspoon said he’s expecting 50,000. Jeremy Maclin tempered those expectations to 30,000. I’m thinking - optimistically - 20,000 folks will show up.
Pinkel said the starters would face the second string for two 12-minute quarters. The second half will be for the deep reserves and will be a running clock. For those of you just dying to see Titus Wonsey, the second half will be your opportunity.
** One other note… If you have to get your football fix early on Saturday, you can check out the Texas Tech game at 10 a.m. on NFL Network.
Copycats…
Is the spring game on TV tomorrow? If so, what channel?
