Gabbert injury minor, Pinkel says

Gary Pinkel sounded like Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan when describing quarterback Blaine Gabbert’s minor injury after practice Thursday.

Gabbert had a precautionary MRI on his shoulder after experiencing soreness Wednesday. Pinkel said the former Parkway West star tweaked it when diving for a bad snap Tuesday.

Pinkel was quick to express the injury is not a concern. “He’s fine. It’s kind of like a pitcher who’s sore a little bit,” he said. “You just kind of treat it and get him back going. We’re excited about that.”

Junior defensive lineman Andy Maples injured his foot in practice. Pinkel sounded like a trainer giving the diagnosis, saying Maples hurt his “fifth metatarsal” — the bone that connects to the little toe — and will get it X-rayed.

Pinkel understands camp is wearing on everyone.

“Guys are sore. They’re tired. Every guy in America’s like that who’s playing football right now. The important thing is to be able to come out and be focused,” he said. “It’s good that they have to go through that because mentally it requires them to focus maybe when they really don’t want to. Older guys are handling it well. Younger guys aren’t, and that’s part of maturing.”

Practice moved indoors from Faurot Field after lightning was spotted in the area.

KICKOFF SET FOR HOME OPENER: The Tigers will take on Southeast Missouri State at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Faurot Field, said Chad Moller, assistant athletic director of media relations. Television arrangements are still being worked out for the home opener, Moller said.

I’m glad to see that karma is cathcing up with Gabbert. This kid is so full of himself now that he plays for the Tigers, but hey Chase Daniels is too. I think its time we stop promoting these cocky individuals who have no desire to be worthy to the community other then enterain them through sports. Don’t get me wrong I like football…its just people these days. Sheesh.
