Scrimmage stats: Forrest Shock rocks!

Summarizing today’s Mizzou football scrimmage (and at the bottom, a hoops update):

* 79 passes, 49 running plays. Accuracy not a problem (53 completions with 1 INT; four QBs with 11 or more completions).

* Gabbert’s apparently got the short routes down cold. He completed 14 of 20 passes for … 64 yards.

Coach Pinkel was plenty impressed, saying: “Gabbert did some real good things. He moved the ball against the first team. For the first game for a young player against our defense, he didn’t do everything right, but you’re not going to. The big thing to do when you’re a young quarterback is protect the football and field position and not turn it over. You have to get rid of the ball knowing you’ll get more heat than normal because you don’t have the best offensive line with you. I think he made some progress there and that’s encouraging.”

* Maclin in midseason form: 6 catches for 99 yards, including a 36-yard TD from Dr. Chase, and 3 carries for 26 yards.

* But will that be enough to hold off Forrest Shock as he jets up the depth chart? Five catches and 70 yards, including a 47-yard TD from Jimmy Costello, for the walk-on wide receiver from Camdenton. He’s No. 2 on the chart behind Maclin . . . for now. J-Mac might want to step it up. Just sayin’ . . .

TG lives! The NBA’s Atlanta Hawks signed former Mizzou gunner Thomas Gardner to a free-agent contract today.

Gardner appeared in four games last season with the Chicago Bulls. Hawks GM Rick Sund said Gardner is “a solid shooter with range, who has the ability to score in bunches.”

Sound accurate, KU fans?

Good to see that the Tigers are practicing with some drive and determination. Thanks for the update! Will the punting be as horrible as last year or did the Tigers find a solution??
