A few tidbits from Gary Pinkel’s morning conference call today:

On Texas: “Colt is playing at a very high level. Playing great defense. Skill people outstanding. Good up front on both sides of ball. That’s why you see this team as good as it is.”

On Saturday’s loss: “You can’t turn ball over. We want to correct our problems but certainly Oklahoma State did a good job.”

On idea of a playoff in college football: “So much better right now. Every week, the national title is on the line.”

On Chase Coffman: “He played last year with bone spur and that affected him. He’s a guy that works hard and is phenomenal athlete. Always ready to play. He’s been playing for four years. He’s on the field more. When Ruck was here they split some. Design a lot of things to go to him.”

On quality of Big 12: “Our league is very well respected. A lot of good quarterbacks, that’s true. Some of best in the nation in this league. When you have that and throw in some good defense, you’re seeing what you’re seeing. Certainly shows from a national standpoint to be very strong.”

On Colt McCoy: “He looks like a competitor and is tough. If you don’t have those ingredients, you will never be a high-level quarterback.”

On challenge of getting team back ready: “You’re not going to win all your games. You’re going to have adversity whether you win or lose. Constant reminder that we have to play our best game. Even though we made some mistakes, we put ourselves in position to win. I’m not too worried about us.”

Mizzou cornerbacks get beat often. They need to figure something out or we are in big trouble period.

“We put ourselves in a position to win”. Sorry, Gary, doesn’t cut it. That was a required win at home against a supposedly weaker opponent. You failed to change strategy effectively at half time, resulting in a desperate struggle from behind the entire second half. That loss is on you, buddy. Man up.

Here’s my take on the game.
We gave up on establishing a running game which caused our passing game fits. We also didn’t do a very good job of taking advantage of OSU turnovers(especially the one at midfield). Maclin looked like he wasn’t all there from the opening kick.
Chase put up two balls that a senior quarterback doesn’t throw! The other pick was totally on the receiver as he let the ball get into his body instead of using his hands.
Bring on Texas, I think we will be ready.

One game does not a coaching career make. Gary Pinkel has proven himself and we are lucky to have him. U of Washington would LOVE to have him and will probably make a run at him. No issues with criticising specific game decisions, but be realistic, we did have a chance to win in the last few minutes, and the players didn’t execute. Go Tigers, Beat the Longhorns
