MU assistant Christensen reported to take Wyoming job

It looks like Missouri is going to lose offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Dave Christensen to Wyoming.

The Laramie Boomerang is reporting that Christensen has reached an agreement in principle to become the Cowboys head coach and was in Laramie Saturday night after Missouri’s loss to Kansas to work out the details.

A source close to the Missouri athletic department told the Post-Dispatch’s Vahe Gregorian that it appeared Christensen was going to accept the Wyoming offer.

The Laramie paper said Christensen would return to Missouri on Sunday for a function with the team’s seniors and then be announced at a press conference later in the week. Missouri will play in the Big 12 title game on Saturday.

Christensen has been with Missouri coach Gary Pinkel since 1992 (when they were at Toledo) and has been his offensive coordinator since 1997.  He has been at Missouri since 2001 when Pinkel came to Columbia. Pinkel has credited Christensen with much of Missouri’s offensive success the last few seasons including the move to the spread offense.

Other candidates for the Wyoming job were Nebrasaka wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore and John Smith, a former head coach at Louisville and Michigan State.

Now if we can only get someone to hire their d-coordinator…I wonder if Todd Dodge will be available to be the o-coordinator, he helped teach Mizzou their spread offense.

Does anyone else see this as kind of crappy?? Instead of focusing on the game vs. KU - Dave is thinking about pathetic Wyoming…don’t you think Dave is thinking - who that I have been recruiting can I get to come up to Laramie?? You know that is his main thoughts during the game.

I am so glad that the MU coaching staff eliminated all the distratctions to focus on the task of winning games. Oh wait……unless the task is to line the coaches’ pockets. Great game after signing your extension Coach Stinkle. Lose the Big 12 Championship and your Little Sister’s of the Poor Bowl Game and maybe you’ll be retiring from MU sooner than you think. Christensen, tell me 100% of your effort and concentration was put in to the Kansas game and I’ll call you a liar. I expect the same results in MU’s last two games. Alden you are a CHUMP!!!

I guess Missouri will be scheduling Wyoming for a couple of games (home and away) in the future. Probably will have to drop SEMO types for a couple of years to accommodate it. This is what happens when you have some success in your program. But not to worry, the Missouri defensive coordinator is not going anywhere.

Good luck Dave. He helped make Mizzou relevant, but he took this offense about as far as its gonna go. Time for someone else to come in and tweak some things and find a way to score consistently on those elite physical teams that still haunt Mizzou.

Mizzou already has Wyoming on their schedule for 2011-12
