MU assistant Christensen reported to take Wyoming job
It looks like Missouri is going to lose offensive coordinator/assistant head coach Dave Christensen to Wyoming.
The Laramie Boomerang is reporting that Christensen has reached an agreement in principle to become the Cowboys head coach and was in Laramie Saturday night after Missouri’s loss to Kansas to work out the details.
A source close to the Missouri athletic department told the Post-Dispatch’s Vahe Gregorian that it appeared Christensen was going to accept the Wyoming offer.
The Laramie paper said Christensen would return to Missouri on Sunday for a function with the team’s seniors and then be announced at a press conference later in the week. Missouri will play in the Big 12 title game on Saturday.
Christensen has been with Missouri coach Gary Pinkel since 1992 (when they were at Toledo) and has been his offensive coordinator since 1997. He has been at Missouri since 2001 when Pinkel came to Columbia. Pinkel has credited Christensen with much of Missouri’s offensive success the last few seasons including the move to the spread offense.
Other candidates for the Wyoming job were Nebrasaka wide receivers coach Ted Gilmore and John Smith, a former head coach at Louisville and Michigan State.
Now if we can only get someone to hire their d-coordinator…I wonder if Todd Dodge will be available to be the o-coordinator, he helped teach Mizzou their spread offense.
