New Mexico, Wyoming looking at Missouri assistant

The Post-Dispatch’s Vahe Gregorian brings us the following tidbit on coaching vacancies from around the country:

New Mexico and Wyoming are interested in Missouri offensive coordinator Dave Christensen for their head coaching jobs.

Toledo, MU coach Gary Pinkel’s former employer,  is showing the same curiosity about defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, a former Rocket player and assistant.

It has been quiet on the University of Washington search front although the school recently named its search committee and is expecting a recommendation from them by the first week of December.

Pinkel had been mentioned as a possible candidate there because of his ties with former Washington coach Don James. Pinkel has preferred to decline comment on the situation to focus on the season with Missouri.

Don’t be surprised if Missouri announces that it has worked out a richer, longer contract with Pinkel.

Please Toledo take Eberflus.

If Toledo would take Eberflus, it would be an early Christmas in Columbia Toledo gave Mizzou Pinkel and changed everything. If they now take back our terrible D-Coordinator, they will arguably have as big of an impact as giving us Pinkel.

Hello batbirdsfan…I hope you have your foot in your mouth because I told you so! THAT IS ALL.

I’m also hoping that Toledo takes Eberflus. It might end up being an addition by subtraction. If he had been here only a couple of years, I would say give him a chance. However, after 8 seasons that’s enough of a track record to say that a change needs to be made at Def. Coordinator. I’m also not crazy the Off. Coordinator either (you have a have a short yardage offense, period).

You guys realize that Eberflus has guided the defense to top 4 in scoring and total defense both of the last 2 seasons in conference play, right?

When you get past looking at just the “big plays” and highlight real stuff, and start watching the whole game, the defense is a lot more solid than you think.

People seem to think the offense carries the team and defense has cost them championships. In the big key games - it’s been the opposite. Offense has not gotten it done when it counts. Can’t say the same about the defense.

Great for them! However, if you recall, play-call selection has always been a bit suspect over his tenor (to say the Very Least). However, this system (which he didn’t develop) has served him very well. The hardest thing about that would be its implications upon recruiting. They’re both very well liked by recruits & Eberflus is successful in pulling in some nice talent. We’ll miss them both. But, that is the cost of a successful program. Guess its time for Andy Hill to Move on up like George n Wheezy.
