MU coach Gary Pinkel on Big 12 title game, Dave Christensen and his team:
How different to prepare this year from last year: Last year was our first experience. This year at least we’ve been there. Had a disappointing loss (vs. Kansas). But we are where we wanted to be at beginning of season. Playing a great team. Don’t think pressure was a factor last year. They outplayed us. Hopefully can play better this year.
What makes OU offense so good: Start up front, that experienced offensive line. Guys like that, four seniors who have played, really high level players. That sets up run game, allows whole thing to work, giving Bradford time to throw. Bradford as good as anyone. As we know have some great offenses in this league, playing as good as any team in nation. Every aspect is going at a high level. We’re looking at them and try to limit number of big plays. They are difficult to stop. No one has really stopped them all year. Have to score a lot of points on offense That’s only chance to beat them.
Has season been a disappointment after coming in with high expectations: National championships, only two teams have a shot. To aim at that as the goal, then don’t is disappointment. We didn’t take that approach. If can be in hunt, that’s good. We didn’t play well .. Texas did a heck of a job against us. Then we had a five-point loss and a three-point loss. Turnovers hurt us. This is where we want to be, playing for Big 12 championships. Pleased that won North and chance to compete for Big 12. Look back and can be frustrated with things.
On Dave Christensen: He will be taking head coaching job at Wyoming. Very proud of him, Great reflection on our program. He will be doing administrative things for new job. Stay with us through Big 12 and bowl game. Finish his responsibilities here. Make the whole thing work.
On deep snapper Beau Brinkley: He will be on scholarship next year. We’re set at that position for a while.
What it was like voting this week in coaches poll: I did what I thought was right thing to do. Very comfortable with that. I feel bad for Texas Tech and Texas. No right answer for it. Don’t care what tiebreaker was, somebody was going to be disappointed.
