COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou will meet Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29 in San Antonio. Entering their fifth bowl game in six years, the Tigers are 9-4 and ranked 25th after being blasted by Oklahoma on Saturday in the Big 12 title game. Northwestern is 9-3.
“We are playing one of the nation’s top teams in Missouri …,” Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald said in a statement. “Our No. 1 goal this season was to win our bowl game. Now the opportunity is in front of us.”
The schools are tied 4-4 in a series that began in St. Louis in 1895. They have met just twice since 1967, with MU splitting two games in Columbia.
MU is to hold a press conference at 6 to discuss the game.

This will be better then watching the lifeless Rams play.
Go Tigers!!!!!!!!

Better running game (Steven Jackson Blows)
Better QB (Bulger is not a leader and poor passer)
Better D### (Thats hard to say)

What a dissapointing end to a dissapointing season. Northwestern?? Alamo Bowl?? What a downfall from this season’s expectations.

I am not thrilled by the Alamo Bowl or the city of San Antonio, but comparing today to 10-15 years ago, this is quite an accomplishment. Remember USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas etc all BUILD programs, not buy them like professional teams. Mizzou is on their way, successful teams lead to quality recruits and quality recruits turn into great players, and so on and so forth. This is how the top teams became so successful, this is the road that Mizzou is turning on to right now. I think the program learned quite a bit this year and I am quite happy with 9-4, back to back Big 12 North titles, beating Nebraska, shutting out Colorado, 100% graduation rate, and so on. Mizzou is on their way to becoming a legit program and Coach Pinkel has the alumni pumped up for the future.

The Alamo Bowl is both a great improvement/achievement compared to pre-2007 season achievements of the Mizzou program. However, it is definitely a disappointment compared to expectations/hype surrounding the team for the off-season and most of this season. The reality is that, outside of the elite powerhouse programs, very few programs of Mizzou’s stature are able to sustain any “momentum” from seasons like the past two. Elite programs consistently are stocked with the most talented players - if a couple hot prospects are “busts”, then there are plenty of others on the roster to pick up the slack. Mizzou, on the other hand, was quite fortunate (lucky?) to have several exceptional players who turned out to be better than expected. In addition, this coincided with a significant drop in quality of teams in the Big 12 North. Mizzou fans should celebrate the strides that the program has made but also not be surprised if this program cannot build upon the success of the past two seasons into a consistent winner, let alone an elite program. Not a knock at Mizzou, but there is precious little evidence of similar situated programs in other big conferences who have made the leap to being a consistent winner. It will be interesting to see whether Nebraska and K-State can return to glory in the Big 12 North.

I’m not sure I would say that Oklahoma, Texas, and USC just BUILT programs and didn’t BUY them. Just ask Reggie Bush and his family about that nice house and all the perks he got while at USC. Oklahoma and Texas both have had controversies. I remember one Oklahoma kid who supposedly “worked” at a car dealership and was driving a brand new car as a perk. I’m sure Mizzou does this also.

I think it should stop altogether but doubt it ever will.

Great points Aztec, and I agree, payments that describe will probably never stop. There is way to much money involved in college football, from the ESPN and Fox TV contracts with the conferences to the Bowl games and sponser deals. Then when the rich alumni get involved, it gets even worse. All the while, the players are the pawns in the complicated chess match where everyone involved is getting rich except for the kids.

Well, well, well tigger fans. Your national championship season is OVER! Only you started to celebrate in August. Now that it is December, didn’t you forget something? Like the oh say THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
Let’s see… How was it put on this blog a few months ago? Oh yes, I remember now, “WE ARE GOING TO BE #1 IN THE NATION!” “THIS IS OUR YEAR!” “CHASE IS THE ONLY REAL CANDIDATE FOR THE HEISMAN!” And then the comments went to, “Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma are cheaters!” or “The BCS (as they say in misery) AIN’T Fair!” Then more, Wah Wah Wah Wah… The tigger program this season was a true refelction of the “Leader” (yeah right) quarter back. Chase Whatever his name was. They were GIVEN the easiest schedule in the big 12. Blew that. Then cried and moaned about their opponents, the officials, the BCS cheating. When will you losers ever learn? PUT UP (which means WINNING the games that decide your fate - i.e. TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, and KANSAS for crying out load!!!) No tiggers would rather go around crying (just like their QB - what’s his name… booger picker or something… or pout around like a bunch of 4 year olds) Or, SHUT UP. Which is what your quarterback should have done from the day he stepped on campus. Yet Misery football players strut around every year talking about their “program’. WHAT PROGRAM???? you have not done anything except loose to Kansas every year. Oh well, I guess all the Mighty MO attire should be on sale for the holidays at least. Then, you jokers can put it in your attic and your grandchildren can pull it out in another 30 years later. Stick to what you know - BASEBALL!
