East St. Louis WR Hawthorne impresses in all-star game
The first pass thrown toward Terry Hawthorne in Sunday night’s Under Armour All-American Game fell short of the East St. Louis wide receiver in the end zone. But Hawthorne would get more opportunities.
Hawthorne’s Black squad lost to the White team 27-16 in Orlando, but the Flyers senior standout turned in an impressive performance. He was the leading receiver in the game with six catches for 120 yards.
The Post-Dispatch defensive player of the year this season, Hawthorne had 118 tackles and eight interceptions, caught 48 passes for 1,009 yards and scored 27 total touchdowns as the Flyers win the Illinois Class 7A championship.
Hawthorne has committed to Illinois — along with St. Louis teammates Kraig Appleton and Tommie Hopkins — but has been taking other official visits and looking at other schools. He made trips to Texas Tech and Missouri and is expected to take officials to Arizona and Illinois.
With his performance on Sunday, Hawthorne could see an increase in his recruiting with a little more than a month to go before national signing day.
Why would this be under Tiger Tracker? Pathetic.
This kid is going to Illinois.
Appleton, maybe not, but Terry is solid.
