East St. Louis WR Hawthorne impresses in all-star game
The first pass thrown toward Terry Hawthorne in Sunday night’s Under Armour All-American Game fell short of the East St. Louis wide receiver in the end zone. But Hawthorne would get more opportunities.
Hawthorne’s Black squad lost to the White team 27-16 in Orlando, but the Flyers senior standout turned in an impressive performance. He was the leading receiver in the game with six catches for 120 yards.
The Post-Dispatch defensive player of the year this season, Hawthorne had 118 tackles and eight interceptions, caught 48 passes for 1,009 yards and scored 27 total touchdowns as the Flyers win the Illinois Class 7A championship.
Hawthorne has committed to Illinois — along with St. Louis teammates Kraig Appleton and Tommie Hopkins — but has been taking other official visits and looking at other schools. He made trips to Texas Tech and Missouri and is expected to take officials to Arizona and Illinois.
With his performance on Sunday, Hawthorne could see an increase in his recruiting with a little more than a month to go before national signing day.
Why would this be under Tiger Tracker? Pathetic.
This kid is going to Illinois.
Appleton, maybe not, but Terry is solid.
So you have talked to Terry this morning have you? He told you he is definitely going to Illinois?
Im sure Nate talked to him this morning huh?
Terry is an Illini deal with it.
If Kraig bolts to Wisconsin then so be it.
If Hawthorne is totally committed to Illinois, then why is he still taking official visits to other schools? Sounds like he’s still making his decision, in which case Mizzou still has a chance. After all, they have a better passing offense than Illinois…
Terry Hawthorne had a “Great visit” to Mizzou and knows that MU will be throwing the ball a lot more than the Illini. He also knows that Mizzou has three outstanding throwing QB’s to throw the ball to him, whereas the Illini have a good running but poor throwing QB. The kid is an unreal talent in every phase of the game. He could be another Kellen Winslow, an E St. Louis kid who stars at Mizzou and then stars in the NFL. He may be the best punter in the country, and he is one of the top DB’s in the USA as well. He is FAR more of a talent than Kraig Appleton. If what I hear from people I KNOW talk to him.. there is a really good chance he’ll sign with Mizzou. Why not? the Tigers can and will throw the ball.. whereas the Illini will NOt be able to throw the ball very well at all. Like being a 7 foot post up center superstar and going to Mizzou to play hoops. No reason to do so right now. All Terry has to do is to look at who is putting receivers into the NFL to make a decision. MIZZOU is easily the right answer for him.
If Hawthorne goes to Illinois,he’ll be makeing a big mistake on his football career.Ron Zook is a very good recruiter and a very bad coach period.
if i was Terry why would i not go to mizzou? like “Tigers USA” said, there are far more athletes at mizzou. The big 12 is more recogized than the big ten and there are also better athletes in the big 12. Also Mizzou WR’s are making it into the draft. I see terry fit at mizzou. But we will see where he goes.
