Missouri wide receiver/kick returner Jeremy Maclin said this morning he will make himself eligible for the NFL draft.

Most NFL scouting services rank him as one of the top three receivers in this April’s draft along with Michael Crabtree of Texas Tech and Percy Harvin of Florida. All are projected as first-round picks.

This season, Maclin’s 102 receptions were sixth in the nation and his 202.4 all-purpose yards per game were No. 1.  It was his 75-yard punt return for a touchdown that helped spark Missouri in its Alamo Bowl win over Northwestern, which he capped with the winning TD catch in overtime.

For his career, he finished with five kick or punt returns for touchdowns, and 182 receptions for 2,315 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for six touchdowns.

At Kirkwood, Maclin caught 99 passes for 2,226 yards his junior and senior season as he became one of the top prospects in the nation. He eventually wound up at Missouri to be closer to home after first committing to Oklahoma.

Not much of a surprise. Hate to see him leave Mizzou but certainly can’t blame him for going. Maybe the Rams will draft him with the #2 pick! If nothing else he could bring a little excitement back to the dome. Probably would be a good marketing thing for the Rams too.

Rams need a kick returner and could really use a game breaker.

He really has to do this so he won’t get an injury before he gets a chance to be paid.

Good luck to him but he probably would have benefited from one more year. He does get dinged too easily.

I am glad that this young man will have a chance to display his talent at the next level. Missouri and its fans were able to see top a very good young football player at his best and the entire staff in Columbia should take the chance to say thank you.
