How OU got a No. 2 seed instead of Missouri
We hope to hear from NCAA committee chairman Mike Slive later tonight but a few factors in OU gettin a No. 2 seed and spot in Kansas City and Missouri a No. 3 and trip to Boise despite beating OU head-to-head:
In OU’s favor:
RPI: OU was ahead of Missouri in most of the models out there. (The NCAA does not release its version but these are close.) Realtimerpi.com had OU at 5 and Missouri at 10.
Strength of schedule: OU ranked 20th and MU ranked 39th.
Conference finish: OU was second, MU was third.
Record vs. Tournament teams: OU was 10-4; Missouri was 8-4.
In Missouri’s favor:
Head-to-head: Tigers won 73-64 in Columbia.
Last 10: Missouri was 8-2 and OU was 6-4.
Not that it matters:
Coaches’ poll: OU ranked eighth and Missouri ninth. If NCAA followed that, OU would be the lowest No. 2 seed and MU would be the highest No. 3.
