Mike Anderson staying at Missouri; seven-year contract
Ending days of speculation, Mike Anderson apparently will be staying at the University of Missouri. The school announced Monday night an agreement in principle to a new seven-year deal.
Terms of the deal, which runs through the 2015-2016 season, will be released upon finalization of the contract.
“We are excited Coach Anderson is going to be at the University of Missouri for a long time,” Missouri athletics director Mike Alden said in a statement. “He’s done a tremendous job rebuilding our basketball tradition and is poised to lead our program to new heights in the coming years.”
In the statement, Anderson said: “We have always appreciated the commitment Mike Alden and his staff have had towards Missouri basketball, and I am excited to remain here at Missouri. We are looking forward to the future of this program and can’t wait to continue building on the success of this past season.”
Anderson had been on the short list at the University of Georgia, and ESPN.com reported earlier in the day that he had received an offer of $2 million a year to coach the Bulldogs.
Alden and Anderson met Tuesday in Columbia before the announcement this evening.
Anderson had also been mentioned as a possible candidate at Memphis, where John Calipari left to take the Kentucky job.
Wow, what a relief! Thanks for the loyalty Coach! Now….can I please borrow a few bucks now that you’ll presumably have plenty to spare with your new deal?
Finally! A coach that can teach defense and correct a team from the bench. Gone are the days of Ricky Clemmons, Tyus Edney, the Haley twins and Quin Snyder’s reckless attempt to rein in a team out of control. His discipline and integrity will bring us the trophies and rewards that a good coach brings to any program. He makes MU basketball interesting and fun to watch!
First I would like Quin for screwing up the Mizzou basketball program, without him none of this would be possible.
What a Gift he is! He’s quickly growing into a Leader to be very proud to trust your student athlete kids with!
congrats to mizzou for lockin up anderson, great move, but anyway they had a good year even though they probably over achieved. but im looking forward to next year when they will surely lose to my illini…………………..again
