Missouri to play Cornell in Boise on Friday
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Tigers earned a No. 3 seed and were placed in the West regional where they will face Ivy League champion Cornell (21-9) on Friday in Boise.
If Missouri wins, they would play the winner of the Marquette (24-9)-utah State (30-4) game on Sunday.
Kansas was given a No. 3 seed and will start Friday in Minneapolis against North Dakota State, making its first tournament appearance.
Why do we ever doubt Missouri will be sent West. They seem to always be sent West. I thought the top 4 seeds were “protected” and given preferential treatment with sites…..how is Boise preferential for Missouri?
92-93…West region
93-94…West region
94-95…West region, Boise
2001-02…West region
2008-09….West region, Boise
am I forgetting any?
I love how MU gets rewarded for 28 wins and the Big 12 Tourney championship by being sent to the West, while KU gets the #3 in the Midwest for losing to Baylor.
Yeah, I don’t really get it. I understand only 2 teams from any one conference can be in their “home” region. But kU was really rewarded for losing to Baylor. They were likely going to be a 3 anyway, unless they won the Big 12 tournament. So it’s as if that loss to Baylor didn’t matter a bit.
No one had more wins this year than Mizzou except Mephis and how do we get rewarded after we won our tournament, out west we go intead of the midwest. I don’t know about you but I’m really sick of the selection committee letting Duke & North Carolina play every year the first two rounds in the state of North Carolina. Why don’t you just give them a pass to the sweet sixteen every year. How many sweet sixteen’s would Mizzou make it to if our opening rounds were always played in St.Louis ? While I’m letting off some steam, I’d like to say ESPN needs to rename themselves tha Big East and ACC Network. All I’ve heard is how down the Big 12 is this year. The Big East is ranked third in the power conference rankings and yet they say the Big East is the best conference from top to bottom. The Big 12 had eight teams with twenty or more wins this year while the Big East had seven. I guess if every Big 12 game was on ESPN like the Big East we might be more highly thought of.
What about Oklahoma getting a two seed and playing in Kansas City? Mizzou beat Oklahoma, went further in the tournamnet, Oklahoma struggled down the stretch. Why does the committed reward them with a number two seed, playing in KC…that should have been Mizzou’s spot, not the Sooners.
Mizzou got seeded about right as a #3. They had their chance to do much better after the OK win, but laying the egg at Texas A&M was a killer. They should have a decent road to the Sweet 16 though, with Cornell and Marquette/Utah State in the way.
I am actually not upset with our draw…marquette’s best player and pt guard james’ is out for the season and has to play a tough utah state team that has only lost 4 games this season so I think we caught a little break there; not the toughest road to the sweet 16…also boise is actually a clean cool little town with a lot of decent bars/restaurants if anyone is considering going…
It’s been awhile since they have even gotten this far.
They need to consistently play good enough to prove themselves worthy of a decent seed.
Another win for the selection committee. Unbelievable that Oklahoma gets the 2 seed in KC and Mizzou gets to travel the 1500 miles to Boise instead of the 125 to KC. I guess the fact that we beat OU and won the Big 12 tourney doesn’t mean a thing to the committee.
I think some of the readers didn’t realize there was a regular season in which KU and OU were 1 and 2. A third seed in the West for Mizzou seems to be fair. Maybe if they handled A&M, K State or Nebraska on the road may have been in a #2 seed discussion.
