Miami (Ohio, not F-L-A), Indiana added to football schedules

Apparently, upcoming games against Bowling Green and Toledo weren’t enough for the Missouri Tigers.

They’ve extended their tour of Gary Pinkel’s old turf, the Mid-American Conference, by adding a home-and-home series with Miami (Ohio). They’ll play the Redhawks at Faurot Field in 2010 and travel to Oxford (Ohio, not England) in 2012.

Also, Mizzou determined it’s finally safe to resume a series with Indiana and added a two-game series for 2013-14.

During a maddening stretch when we all tried to “Hitch A Ride On Woody’s Wagon!” before booking flights to oblivion on “Air Stull,” the Tigers played Indiana eight times from 1985-92. The Hoosiers won six, and two others ended in ties.

Mizzou hasn’t beaten Indiana since 1954, a season that came to an inglorious end with a 74-13 loss to Maryland.

The week before one of Mizzou’s worse losses (74-13 to Jim Tatum’s Maryland Terps) Mizzou beat KU 41-18 while Maryland was tuning up for the big Mizzou challenge by beating George Washington (who knew they had a football team) 48-6. The worst part of the MU-Maryland debacle is that the game was televised in St. Louis. (1954)

If Coach Pinkel wants to get his team ready for the Conference schedule, why not play a few Top 20 teams like Dan Devine and Al Onofrio used to do. Beating teams from the MAC might put up Ws but little credit from the pundants who rank the teams.
