More from Vahe Gregorian:

Mizzou basketball signee Keith DeWitt failed to be certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse and will not enroll at Missouri, MU announced Friday evening.

“It’s disappointing for Keith that he didn’ft receive better news, but at the same time, we’fre excited about the players we already have in our program,” coach Mike Anderson said in a statement. “We like the fit of our team, and we are looking forward to another great season of Tiger basketball.”

Details of what derailed DeWitt could not immediately be confirmed. When the 6-foot-10 forward from North Carolina signed with MU, Anderson said, “He fills an important need for us with both DeMarre (Carroll) and Leo (Lyons) graduating after this season.”

Missouri turns two full-time starters and a number of other role players from a team that won a school-record 31 game and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.

Why do i feel like if Dewitt had gone to OU (where he had been offered and considered) he would have been eligible to play? I’m not crying conspiracy, but Mizzou never wins these cases (i.e. football, tony Temple burned RS, medical hardships etc.)–sure, the NCAA has rules…but just my feelings that mizzou never seems to catch the breaks…if there is a qualification problem, can’t Keith take classes in the Fall (at Mizzou or elsewhere) in an attempt to qualify for next yr. etc.? If he plays @ the JUCO, he’ll be 23-24 then and presumably (past) NBA ready and won’t ever play for Mizzou, or any D1 school for that matter..

To answer your question, Mark, I think it’s because you’ve got an inferiority complex. –denny, http://www.tracychapstick.com

And we are sure, Denny, that you have issues way beyond sports or what we can print in a newspaper!!! Stay blessed, go Mizzou!!!

Mr. DeWitt will be just fine… he’ll land at a better school once he gains eligibility.
A school with a final four in their past.
A school that averages more than a half full arena attendance wise.

The problem arises because these talented young athletes have been given a free pass on their academic work since the time they started playing organized sports. Adults keep telling them how great they are, and they “pass” all their classes, even though they haven’t learned anything. Then comes a test that isn’t scored by their friendly faculty and BOOM - they fail. I refuse to believe that gifted athletes are inherently stupid, but you see so many who can’t qualify, leaving the only explanation that they have been allowed to “graduate” from each class level without learning the required skills.
