Chase Daniel says he’s been cut by Redskins

Here’s the Associated Press report out of Washington D.C. on the Redskins:

The winner between the two ex-Heisman Trophy contenders battling for the Washington Redskins third-string quarterback job? Try “none of the above.”

The Redskins planned to put Colt Brennan on injured reserve Saturday because of hip and hamstring injuries, according to the team’s Web site. Meanwhile, his competition for the job, Chase Daniel, announced via Twitter that he was one of the final roster cuts and might get a place on the practice squad.

The moves would leave the Redskins with two quarterbacks _ starter Jason Campbell and veteran Todd Collins _ although the team could find a No. 3 among the many players who were cut Saturday as NFL teams slashed their rosters to 53 for the regular season.

The Redskins said Brennan aggravated a nagging hamstring problem in Thursday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. An MRI revealed a hamstring tear. The team also cited a hip injury, which would be Brennan’s second in two years. He missed much of the offseason work in 2008 because of hip surgery.

The news brought a surprise ending to the contest between two players who finished third and fourth in the Heisman balloting two years ago.

Daniel, a undrafted rookie from Missouri generously listed at 6 feet, was considered a long shot to overtake Brennan at the start of training camp. But Brennan threw three interceptions in preseason while Daniel had three touchdowns and no interceptions in more limited action.

Brennan, a sixth-round draft pick from Hawaii last year, developed a rabid fan base after strong performances in the 2008 preseason. He was the No. 3 quarterback throughout the regular season and did not play.

The quarterback developments were the first nuggets on a busy day at Redskins Park. The team faced a late-afternoon deadline to cut the roster from 75 to 53. Daniel said he was told by the front office he’ll get a spot on the practice squad if he clears waivers. Teams can establish an eight-man practice squad Sunday.

“generously listed at 6 feet”? i’m sick of hearign that. i have reag that comment about him twince in reading about him in the last 20 minutes. He measured at 6 feet even at the combine. I’m pretty sure the combine is a reliable source of players measurables so he is 6 feet you dont need to act like he is not.

I find it hard to believe the Saints made room for Daniel in the midst of cutting 22 players, what did they do? Cut 23 so they could pick Daniel up?

Come on.

Go to NFL.com, click on the Saints, then click on Roster.
Chase Daniel is NOT on the Saints 53 man roster.
He might be on their practice squad?
Who cares

I wish him luck wherever life takes him and appreciate all he did for Mizzou. I still remember when Brad Smith was speared in the game against Iowa State in the 3rd Quarter. Chase came in and proceeded to march on and take the win from a complacent Hawkeye team.

That was a CYCLONE team, not Hawkeye. ISU Cyclones. Iowa Hawkeyes. I hope Chase gets the chance somewhere. The press in DC was his fan.
