Hoch’s knee is fine, he should play more at tackle this week, other notes
Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel said right tackle Dan Hoch, who had been bothered by a knee injury, didn’t have any trouble on Saturday, but that they used Kurtis Gregory at times there because they were concerned about his stamina and him getting tired because of the reduced action he saw in camp and his technique suffering. Pinkel said Gregory will move back inside for the Bowling Green game and backup Jack Meiners will see more playing time.
– Pinkel agreed that his players came out with somethign to prove on Saturday. “I think that’s OK,” he said. “Some other national programs, they lose a lot of players and people assume they just reload. You have to earn that, earn all those things. I think they certainly did have a bit of a chip on their shoulders. My approach was, this was our opportunity to show we’ve got a decent football team. I’m proud of the way they played.”
– On Bowling Green, and quarterback Tyler Sheehan: “He’s real talented. He threw for over 300 yards last week (339 to be exact), he’s a player that certainly got good range, he runs fairly well. I’m impressed with that. He’s played before, he played last year and won a couple of MAC player of the week awards. He’s a guy that can distribute the ball. I’m real, real impressed with (receiver) Freddie Barnes, who had 15 catches. They throw the ball well, spread it out, and do good job.”
I’m wondering about Darrel Jackson, if the Tigers passing game gets shut down can we count on DJ to gain some yards? I admit I am not an expert, however DJ just looks slow to me when he has the ball. Except for his 32 yard gainer he averaged something like 2.4 yards per carry. Am I the only one concerned about this?
oops, I meant Derrick Washington, sorry! (see above comment)
The running game is a concern, although it tends to be less important in the spread offense, seems to me. I’m not sure the passing game can completely be shut down, but we’ll need to run the ball better at times, and I think we can.
