Albert Fizzles, Bows Out

The good news for Albert: He advanced to Round 2. The bad news: He carried forward his meager homer total of five.

That left him with a lot of work to do — too much work.  He ripped six more homers, including two onto the center field embankment, two line drives into those left-center field seats and a missile up to Big Mac Land.

That was a decent show, but not enough to advance him. Fans headed to the rest rooms and concession stands en masse after he hit.

Ryan Howard pounded eight more homers, giving him 15 for two rounds and putting pressure on Nelson Cruz and Prince Fielder.

With his first homer, Cruz knocked Albert from the fray. Will Pujols go home and get a good night’s sleep now?

I’m very glad that Albert didn’t have to do the whole long marathon.

Gee, what a disappointment. I mean, I’m really bummed out. Why can’t he save all of his homers for the derby? Why must he waste them in actual games? ;)

The Home Run Derby is about as good an indicator of who can hit the most home runs as Carburetion Day is an indicator of who will win the Indy 500.
