Smoltz Dazzles Crowd
On an increasingly bleak night at Busch Stadium. destined Hall of Famer John Smoltz gave the crowd a treat by striking out the first five Dodgers he faced in the sixth and seventh.
Since Smoltz could retire or depart as a free agent after this season, Cards fans needed to relish this relief appearance. Their ovation indicated that they did just that.
Smoltz’s strong relief outing, on the heels of Dennys Reyes’ shutout inning, kept the Cards in this game.
But they are still down 4-0. Will they ever get their bats going?

Too bad TLR didn’t use Smoltz to close game 2 - glad he brought in a choker who hadn’t successfully closed a game since 9/5. Hope he and his doggies go back to LA and stay there. Arf, arf…
Oh,and before the TLR apologists come out to play - getting swept in the playoffs is the manager’s fault. This will be the third time TLR has been swept in a playoff series, and another time he only won one game. He needs to be held accountable for his lack of preparation - can’t stand this nonsense…
TLR has two of the top five pitchers in baseball and two of the best hitters in the game and the best player in the last 50 years and he gets swept. Time to move on LaLoser. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Glad to see Molina runs to third as poorly as he runs to first. That joker will never make a fielder throw under pressure - doesn’t even try to run to first. I’ve said it a million times, and the apologists tell me I’m full of it - well, there you go… If you actually hustle, fielders have to press, and throwing mistakes happen. I’m sick of his jogging to first (Pujols’ too) - and what he just did on the way to third was atrocious - he should be fined for that crap. These are TLR issues, too though - he should have sent a signal out to him to make sure he remembered not to run on a ball hit in front of him. That said, you’d think he’d have known what to do regardless. They’re all over-paid idiots… Glad I didn’t drop one penny on these knuckleheads this year - not one cent. Good luck with Boras in the off-season. What a waste of time - swept like a bunch of grade-schoolers. Hope to hear some boos tonight - the ‘best fans’ need to let their players hear that sometimes…
