And Mr. Irrelevant is . . .
Outside linebacker David Voboro of Idaho. The Rams took him with the last pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, thus giving him a free vacation courtesy of the Mr. Irrelevant folks.
The scouting experts are actually excited about this guy, suggesting he could have a legit chance to make the team. Scott Linehan took care of a kid from his alma mater.
So that’s it. The draft is over. Keep pounding away with your comments — I’m sure the Rams read every one of them.

Here we go again. Mr. Gordon, regardless of your intention, your final comment was extremely condescending and insulting. As a wordsmith, you should understand how difficult it is to convey the subject of sarcasm in print. Your coverage here was sparse, at best; and your comment portrays disdain for doing your job. If you would prefer, we’ll just stop checking out your column; and then you won’t have the burdensome task of having to convey this information to your readers.
RadicalThinker & call guy,
Your comments are as absurd as those you are interested in denegrating. I detest those who feel the need to make insulting generalizations about entire groups of people based on the comments of a few individuals. Unfortunately, some people took personal offense to Mr. Gordon’s comments. They responded, irrationally, as though they were being attacked. Those comments were at least aimed at the individual. In the case of each of your comments, you chose to lash out at the entire Missouri population.
Who is the biggot? Who is making gross, insulting, stereotypical generalizations? I find it amazingly ironic that your response to the language used caused you to both respond in a manner far more prejudiced. I also find it ironic that two clear Liberals, the supposed party of tolerance, have so much hatred toward the state’s population. Why don’t you keep your political views on a different board, this one is for sports discussion.
relax everybody … it’s only football! Besides, we can enjoy watching the KC Chiefs all year and Dorsey dominating and being the new Warren Sapp he was projected to be. Also, look at it this way, Donnie Avery goes down in Rams’ history alongside Trung, LP, and the ghost of Clyde Duncan.
So what’s the overall grade? I’m disappointed we didn’t choose Dorsey - he’s a moose and Avery is an extreme reach. Another draft bust for the Rams? God I hope not. Devaney did draft Ryan Leaf right? Oh shit…
I need duct tape or my head is going to explode. I am still trying to comprehend the Ty Hill pick. Now this!!!
Why all the analysis of a draft that will not produce results for 12 to 36 months (that is one to three years for the learning impaired)??? Why do folks, who have little if any info about these draftees suddenly become NFL scouts????
Some of you folks were probably screaming for TLR’s head when he left Albert Pujols on the roster when Bonilla was hurt.
Give it time before any judgement is made. You will look less like whiners and more like actual folks who know something.
Boz, you’re talking out of your ass. And bluesteel, Ty Hill is a good player, and was worth the pick. Remember, we traded down with Denver that year. If he has a healthy 2008, he’ll be more than productive.
Steven, You used the “IF” word in regards to TH. He was & is not a first round pick. He is not physical enough, I am afraid that Avery & King will turn out the same way. When was the last time Rams got a DB that can deliver a big hit?
bluesteel, finding a DB that can deliver a big his is like finding intelligent and insightful comments in President George W. Bush’s speeches, they do exist, but they are more than simply rare. You need linebackers and safeties to deliver big hits. You need cornerbacks that have blazing speed and excellent ball skills… i.e Ty Hill. I’ll go ahead and predict a monster year for Ty Hill, okay?
thanks to austin for the info on the draftees.I kept searching the net for info and post dispatch did a surprising job.I was hoping for franklin or rucker, kind of a boring draft. GO CHRIS LONG!
I think the most amusing part of all the ranting about the draft is that none of it really matters until they show up on the field. If the Rams have great things to do with Avery, and see something they can coach on King, that is all wonderful; they aren’t going to show us the playbook on draft day. And as far as the selection order, it’s easy to say, within the confines of this blog, that any given player would be there later and they could trade down, because there’s no accountability here.
Meanwhile, the drafted players have to be signable and mesh with the team’s plans. I admit the team has done poorly (believe me, I own season tickets and scratched my head at my own decision to waste good money on some of those games last year), but that doesn’t necessarily relate to the players being drafted. It could relate just as much to the coaching that’s going on with the team; for instance, I have long thought that last year’s run of injuries (and Alex Barron’s continued false start woes) could actually be the result of poor offensive line coaching by virtues of players not being reminded in practice to use good form, leading to injuries when players are falling all over the place at game speed. I have no way to verify that, but it seems as plausible as anything, and if that is the case, drafting more mid-level offensive linemen isn’t going to help if they can’t coach themselves.
In short, there are a lot of fixes that have to happen on a team as bad as the Rams were last year; focusing this much energy on chastising draft picks is a waste of mental energy.
