And Mr. Irrelevant is . . .

Outside linebacker David Voboro of Idaho. The Rams took him with the last pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, thus giving him a free vacation courtesy of the Mr. Irrelevant folks.

The scouting experts are actually excited about this guy, suggesting he could have a legit chance to make the team. Scott Linehan took care of a kid from his alma mater.

So that’s it. The draft is over.  Keep pounding away with your comments — I’m sure the Rams read every one of them.

I think the most amusing part of all the ranting about the draft is that none of it really matters until they show up on the field. If the Rams have great things to do with Avery, and see something they can coach on King, that is all wonderful; they aren’t going to show us the playbook on draft day. And as far as the selection order, it’s easy to say, within the confines of this blog, that any given player would be there later and they could trade down, because there’s no accountability here.

Meanwhile, the drafted players have to be signable and mesh with the team’s plans. I admit the team has done poorly (believe me, I own season tickets and scratched my head at my own decision to waste good money on some of those games last year), but that doesn’t necessarily relate to the players being drafted. It could relate just as much to the coaching that’s going on with the team; for instance, I have long thought that last year’s run of injuries (and Alex Barron’s continued false start woes) could actually be the result of poor offensive line coaching by virtues of players not being reminded in practice to use good form, leading to injuries when players are falling all over the place at game speed. I have no way to verify that, but it seems as plausible as anything, and if that is the case, drafting more mid-level offensive linemen isn’t going to help if they can’t coach themselves.

In short, there are a lot of fixes that have to happen on a team as bad as the Rams were last year; focusing this much energy on chastising draft picks is a waste of mental energy.

Hey Gordon, what’s why the smart a$$ comment at the end? I’m sure the Rams read everyone one of your articles too. I can see the reason why not many people like you. You sir, are not the high character type the Rams are looking for, so maybe you should start writing for some powder puff games or something.

There are tons of morons, the St.Louis kind, all over Lajew, Chesterfield, and creve Couer. St.Louis is all about white flight and I guarantee, almost every poster here who lives in those areas, left the city due to the blacks but use the excuse of the schools. St.Louis is red-necks, fat asses, constant bitchers about life and highway “40″ ala I-64 and Cardinal baseball. Place is the perverbial definition of a true shithole midwest town, a cow town at that. F all of you.

Really Hitler?

Can we please just get back to football?
I agree that most of these picks were not bad picks at all, the Toledo guy was ranked in the second round in a lot of mock drafts, i like the picks really, except of course Avery. I agree that if you like him that much fine, but tell us WHY THEN, trade down, get something ANYTHING. It’s just sad the St. Louis media does not have the balls to call Scott out and say why Avery then when he was rated so low in comparison.

And to the coast guy, I am a true fan, but when the front office pulls a move like this, as a fan IMO you deserve an answer, and a logical one. Were not trashing all the players, but when we have so much talent, it is hard to take these losses, and all these front office mistatkes

Don’t listen to ‘em Gordo. You’re better than Balzer.
I’m not in the Rams’ front office, nor do I claim to be, so I’ll let final judgement be reserved until the players have played 5 NFL seasons for the final verdict as everyone should.
So that being said, allow me to do my impression of these fanboys who know American football as a baby (and I use that world liberally) born yesterday

*ahem*

“GOSH GORDO! THE RAMS DIDN’T DO WHAT I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD!!! WHY DON’T THEY EVER LISTEN TO ME
*ahem*

“GOSH GORDO! THE RAMS DIDN’T DO WHAT I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD!!! WHY DON’T THEY EVER LISTEN TO ME?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I APPLIED TO BE THE GM OF THE TEAM BUT FOR SOME REASON, THEY REJECTED MY RESUME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DON’T THEY KNOW I’VE BEEN PLAYING MADDEN’S FRANCHISE MODE SINCE 2004?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
BECAUSE IT’S AS EASY AS THAT, AS WE ALL KNOW, BECAUSE THEY’S ALL STOOOOOPID!!!”

*ahem*

I hope these boys pan out and if they don’t, the world will go on, folks. There’s more to life than football. GO RAMS!!!!

NBC Sports gives them a D+. I didn’t look at every team but it was the lowest grade I saw given. I think a D+ is generous.

“St. Louis Rams
The Rams got a good player and filled a need with defensive end Chris Long, but went against their draft board to get him. They then reached for Houston Donnie Avery, a raw receiver who may not be ready to do more than return kicks, with the No. 33 overall pick. John Greco of Toledo is a fine tackle pass protection prospect.

Kentucky receiver Keenan Burton is injury prone. Cornerback Justin King is raw and may simply be a workout wonder. Tulsa safety Chris Chamberlain is another “measurables” pick. Idaho linebacker David Vobora is this year’s Mr. Irrelevant.”

Grade: D+
