Efforts to trade down failed, so the Rams filled a glaring need by adding energetic defensive end Chris Long.

Comments from Scott Linehan and/or Billy Devaney will follow . . .

Absoluely dumb to take to the 5th best player, a smalish, high motor DE with 2nd pick and get nothing out of it. rumors are the Rams were asking for a one, two , and fourth round picks.

Great pick! HIgh motor, off field and on field leader. The front four is really taking shape.

Pedigree is important and anybody who doesn’t think this kid is an unbelievalble athlete is an idiot.

Very solid pick.

Great pick, high quality, class act & a true leader - Much needed to rebuild a lack luster locker room - Great job RAMS!!!!!

I think the Rams got a high character, high effort, producer here. So far so good. If we can get a good linebacker in the early second round, the defense will be on solid ground next season. Go Linehan! Go Rams!

I would have preferred Glenn Dorsey, I just think he will be a truly great player. But Chris Long will be a very good player in his own right, hopefully for years to come. Solid player, solid person, solid pick.

Since he retired, I have missed the intensity & leadership Jack Youngblood provided at DE. I never thought we would get close to that caliber of player at DE again in my lifetime. Chris Long plays the game just like Jack did, relentless. Nobody would dog it on defense while Jack was killing himself to make plays. Chris said “I want to EARN the respect of the veterens”, he understands that it is an honor to be in the NFL & he is no egomaniacal head case. He grew up in the limelight, wealthy, son of a hall of famer, yet he is very humble. A big contract will have a much smaller effect on his life than Dorsey’s. Zero red flags, almost zero bust potential. Well done, it’s a good day to be a Ram fan.

I was hoping for Glen but Long seems to fit the needs of the Rams right now, I’m really excited for everything next fall we’ll have a backup QB who will make Bulger better and now we have an outstanding number 2 pick who will make everyone on his side better.
