Rams Draft Ryan Leaf Protege
At West Texas A&M, Keith Null played under former NFL draft bust Ryan Leaf. So he probably knows what NOT to do when he comes to Rams Park.
The good news: He has size (6-foot-3, 222 pounds). The bad news: The NCAA Division II star was ranked as the 37th-best QB prospect by ESPN.com.
Would this guy have been have been available after the draft as a free agent?

Name: Keith Null
College: West Texas AM
Height: 6-3 Weight: 222
40 Low: 4.87 40 Time: 4.98 40 High: 5.14
Projected Round: High: PFA Low: FA
Rated number 28 out of 116 QB’s 494 / 2534 TOTAL
Good question. I have to wonder what Devaney and Co. saw in this guy to draft him over Harrell, Hoyer or Mike Reilly?
Pathetic draft choice! They could have had this guy as a free agent. The Rams were 2-14 last year and cannot afford to waste draft choices. What a joke!
Graham Harrell and Brian Hoyer still and the board and the Rams tear their rotator cuff reaching for this guy.
Gotta wonder where they were going with this pick. Could have chosen Graham Harrell if the really want a Texas QB…
This is the first pick they made that seems really dumb.
WTH? a free agent instead of say another Tackle for depth or Dline for depth or backup RB for SJax or another WR even to jam as many unknowns as we can into that position like we have we DB’s. Somehow the the wheels have fallen off imho in this draft…
And was there never a player they liked enough to try and move up for in the later rounds??
Really disappointed after looking so smoother all offseason…
Another pathetic Rams draft choice. What else is new? Team is already shaping up for a 2010 draft number one pick.
Personally, if the Rams had it in their mind that they HAD to draft a QB at that spot, I would have taken Chase Patton instead…I think Patton would have been a million times better of a pick. The best value here though, in my opinion of course, would have been RB Rashad Jennings (6′1″ 231 lbs), or RB Kory Sheets (5′10″ 208 lbs, 4.39 40 time), who could also be a very effective kick returner.
So they go with a pick whose scouting profile has the comments right up front:
“He is a guy who lacks the arm strength to play at the next level. Plays out of the shotgun and lacks great pocket stature.” Just what we need. Sounds very similar to what we have in Bulger.
Oh, I forgot this gem….”Free agent pickup and practice squad QB AT BEST.” So much for a change in our draft philosophy…..
