Would The Rams Draft Sanchez, Deal Bulger?
This is one possibility on the table today, although it appears to be a long shot.
The Detroit Lions put the Rams braintrust in position to ponder multiple scenarios today. By agreeing to a six-year deal with Matthew Stafford, the Lions put the Rams on the clock.
This was good for Billy Devaney on two fronts. First, the business side had an opportunity to analyze that deal and set the groundwork for its own contract talks. If the Rams use that second overall pick as expected, the team will want to select a player it can sign without incident.
Better yet, the Rams gained trade leverage. Many teams covet Sanchez. Although teams aren’t eager to trade up for that second pick, Devaney could draft Sanchez and put the kid up for bidding? The Rams can always get a tackle later in the first round the extra pick or picks could be used to fill other needs.
Another scenario has the Rams drafting Sanchez, keeping him and trading Marc Bulger. The Rams can talk trade this morning because they control the rights to Sanchez for the next several hours.
Now Devaney can find out if another team is really willing to take Bulger off his hands.
Here is a look at Stafford’s money.
Here is a look at the Sanchez sweepstakes. If the Redskins move up to get Sanchez, Jason Campbell could hit the trade block. If the Brown get Sanchez, Brady Quinn could become available.
The Jets want to trade up for a quarterback or trade for a quarterback — even Bulger. Apparently Kellen Clemens is not the answer.
The Broncos seem unlikely to package its two first-round picks to trade up for Sanchez.

The short answer is Yes.
Bulger never took control he never showed the Rams or the fans he was a true leader. We need a quarterback that will step up and take control and lead this team!
I am not a big fan of trading down. I was watching the draft in 2006 and I was excited because Hatoti Ngata name was still on the board and Rams D line sucked couldn’t stop the run. I thought for sure rams were about to pick him. The Rams then decided to trade down to take Tye HIll in 2006 and we passed on Jay Cutler, Haloti Ngata and Brodrick Bunkley.
Take Jason Smith or Mark Sanchez but don’t trade down it is not worth it.
The two most likely scenarios now would be:
1. Take Sanchez if we can trade Bulger (Jets?) for extra picks. This draft is deep on OTs and no sense spending the top pick on the two discussed.
2. Trade down (which now is possible; calling Dan Snyder) for more picks.
Either way, if the Rams go .500 this year it will be a miracle. Bulger still has some years left but I think he’s still rattled from multiple sacks so dealing him now would be smart if we can. Boller can be an effective stand in until Sanchez is ready. Devaney said Barron was working well at LT and there is Greco so I can’t see spending big money in the ist round for an OT.
Go Rams!
Please, Mark Sanchez is not the answer. His own college coach doesn’t think he will make it in the NFL. The Rams should be thankful for the Detriot Lions otherwise they would have been the sole laughing stocks of the NFL last year. I’m a season ticket holder, but I’m rethinking that. I pay a lot of money to see a pathetic team 8 times in the regular season and 2 times in the preseason. I think buying a big screen and the NFL ticket would be better.
Obviously you were not a fan during the Big Red days If this Rams teams upset you. Lets see they have taken us to the playoffs and 2 Super Bowls. Wow and during Big Red Days a .500 season was considered a victory. Winning is not guaranteed and we should cherish the fact we have a team.
Besides you get to sit in a dome in December and not the upper deck of Busch stadium with all your extremities frozen…. But it was fun,,,,, and I rooted for those Cardinals with Hart, Metcalf and Gray.
Sanchez sounds great and could possibly have the same impact as Big Ben in Pittsburgh. We need a young strong Qb to lead this team.
As another poster said, Bulger never established himself as somebody the Rams could win with. Why not deal him; draft Sanchez and name the kid the starter from Day One? What’s the worst that could happen? The Rams are already the second worst team in the league. What little room there is for decline is more than made up for by the room for improvement. Maybe this kid is destined to be the successor to Kurt Warner in Rams lore. Bulger certainly isn’t the one.
I would take sanchez and let him and boller fight it out for starting qb in west coast offense then trade bulger to redskins or jets or even a 3 way deal to try to get the most pick out of it!
either way you wind up with a good qb a top 5 ot and a chance to get one of the top lbs or dt in the first 2 rds! I would give the rams an A for that draft without seeing what else we get ! I think in the 3rd you could still get a quality wr in the 3rd rd
I think if you can trade Bulger, do it. He is a head case that doesn’t have the ability to lead a team. He has no idea on how to step up in the pocket or how to roll out and throw the ball away when pressured. Sanchez has all the makings of a good looking pro player.
If you can’t trade Bulger, I say you look at Curry and start building a good defense. With a linebacker like Curry he can make an impact right away. Sanchez will be a good player, but it will take a couple for years for him to mature into a real starting QB.
It will be a very interesting draft!
Steve is right, Sanchez’s coach said he wouldn’t make it in the NFL … why take a HUGE risk like that? And I know everything wants an OT but Curry is a franchise kind of player. The kind you don’t pass up … but likely the Rams will and I believe they’ll be sorry for many years when he’s pro=bowling it year after year.
