Patriots respond, take 7-3 lead
Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel earned a quick first-down conversion by finding Wes Welker with a third-down pass. Then he did it on the next third down, too, locating Welker working against Jason Craft.
Then he found Jabar Gaffney for 17 yards as the Patriots moved into scoring range. Then he located Randy Moss over the middle, moving New England into the red zone.

Fill-in running back Kevin Faulk gained 9 ¾ yards on his next two carries, then BenJarvus Green-Ellis hammered the ball in on two carries.
The Patriots countered the Rams score by using their passing game to set up the run. That is opposite of the Rams approach, but it certainly worked.
