Bears-Rams First Quarter, Cont.: Chicago Builds 14-0 Lead

Back came the Bears, with Matt Forte grinding out yardage between the tackle and Kyle Orton working over the Rams secondary with ball-control passing.

But Rams linebacker Will Witherspoon did a nice job sniffing out a third-down wide receiver screen pass to Devin Hester – and the beleaguered Rams defense actually earned a stop.

But Trent Green moved the Rams backward, not forward, during his first series back at the helm of the offense. The Bears dumped him back at the 10 with their second sack of the game, putting the Rams in an impossible down-and-distance situation.

At this point in the game, the Rams offense has exploded for a minus-17 yards.

The next big Bears play was beautiful – a 27-yard pass to Devin Hester, lofted over the top of Rams cornerback Ron Bartell with great touch.

From there, Chicago kept marching. Some more tough running by Forte and additional ball-control passing moved the Bears into the red zone. Orton finished the seven-play, 63-yard drive with a seven-yard TD pass to Jason McKie.

With 1:44 left in the first quarter, the Bears had a 14-0 lead.

Derek Stanley answered that with a 75-yard kickoff return, doing wonders for his individual stock. When was the last time the special teams did something really exciting?

A rare Trent Green-to-Dane Looker pass got the Rams to the Chicago 12. But that is as far as the Rams got; Green took a nasty sack on third down and the Rams had to settle for a Josh Brown field goal attempt.

Naturally, Brown missed from 40 yards out. Nice.

The Rams are terrible today, across the board. Is there no end to the suffering of Rams fans?

Thankfully, many thousands of fans sold their tickets to Bears fans and moved on with their weekend.

How low can this team sink? As bad as this year has been, I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom yet. It just keeps getting worse each week. Does anyone think they’ll finish the game with positive yardage?

It depends wtf. Will the Bears play all 60 minutes, or will they take the 2nd half off and enjoy some fine dining in downtown St. Louis?

Im willing to bet if this ridiculous collection of morons who run this team had ever bothered to get REAL players for our offensive line, then maybe this situation we are in now would never have happened?

Maybe Bulger wouldnt have regressed to what he is now? Maybe if our coaches could actually COACH some of these mutts or could evaluate talent in any sort of way, then maybe this franchise wouldnt be a disgrace like it is.

Looks like the fine dining is on the field. Lamb chops anyone?

Worst team ever? The sad thing is I don’t think the players give a @#$%. They’ll drive home in their nice cars back to their big houses tonight and start planning their winter vacations. I urge the people of STL to purchase a huge sign to put outside Rams Park telling the team that they are gutless losers. And the press should poll all the football writers to make degrading comments on how bad all the Rams players are and post them in black and white. We must humiliate these players for their lack of effort!

Why? They’re pretty good at humiliating themselves week after week.

Hey Ziggie, this team is still guaranteed to make $15 million from the St. Louis taxpayers, right?

Oops. 21-0. But we got out of the negative total yards position! We now have 4 total yards to their 209.

I think we have n o choice but to blow up this group, save only the best players, take the hit next year and play just as well as this with street FAs. Then we’ll have more high picks, and some money under the cap to rebuild in 2010. We’ve got to start thinking like this. Bulger may cost us plenty in a cap hit, but at least his miserable ass will be gone and we can start to rebuild.
