First Quarter: New York Jets roll to quick 7-0 lead
The New York Jets were not afraid to start the game on offense. After winning the coin toss, they opted to take the ball.
Quarterback Brett Favre wanted to get busy. So did running back Thomas Jones, who broke a 20-yard run on the first play from scrimmage.
In a third-and-8 scenario, would the St. Louis Rams bring pressure? Yes, with Chris Long standing up to play linebacker in 3-4 alignment, then joining the blitz.
But the Jets protected Favre, who located Jerricho Cotchery for a first down. Then Jones ran for another first down as the field tilted down against the Rams.
A 14-yard completion to Laveranues Coles moved the Jets into scoring position. A 7-yard Jones run advanced New York into the red zone.
Then Jones zig-zagged through the Rams āDā for a 13-yard TD run. In no time at all, the Jets had a 7-0 lead and Rams fans began making plans for the rest of their afternoon.
Thomas “The Train” Jones gained 53 yards on five carries during that drive. Among the Rams caught out of position: Linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa.

Looks like it’s going to be another long afternoon.
