Second Quarter: New York Jets Up 24-0 and Counting
Down 17-0, the St. Louis Rams responded with a terrible kickoff return by Jonathan Wade (11 yards!) and another pitiful three-and-out offensive sequence.
If the New York Jets needed to win this game 100-0, you get the sense they could. They are in top form and the Rams have collapsed, again.
The Jets kept the ball on the ground, pounding Jones again and again and again to start their next possession. They moved the chains as a result.
Fakhir Brown made a nice open-field tackle on Leon Washington on a little dump-off pass, but the Jets kept rolling downfield.
Thomas Jones broke a 13-yard run. Former Mizzou quarterback Brad Smith, running an option play in place of Brett Favre, mesmerized Will Witherspoon with an open-field fake and gained six more yards.
Brown could have intercepted a pass in the left flat, but the ball went through his outstretched hands. So Jones bowled into for another score and Jets’ lead was 24-0.
This is just sad.
And make things even worse, Witherspoon was left down and out after the TD play. As bad as this defense is today, it would really stink without Will.

Gutless Clueless and most should jobless come Monday.. Coaches don’t have scheme and players don’t have the heart!!
I hear they’re giving 10-1 odds the Rams won’t score the rest of the season in Vegas.
So you still think it was my fault eh???
Maybe the solution would be to release everybody except the punter and kicker, hire a bunch of street free agents and a high school coach to take us the rest of the way this year. Could it be any worse?
Have we qualified for the playoffs yet?
Think the prospective new owners (whoever they are) are dying to hire Haslett?
I hope the Jets pile on as many points as humanly possible. 30-zip now, I think they could go for 60 or 70 points. Hope they don’t call it quits in the second half. Maybe this could be the all-time NFL blow-out. Anybody know the record for that?
The Rams will go 4-12 the rest of the season, and will be picking in the Lottery. The Rams need leaders in the locker room. One from the coaching staff and one or two players. THEY HAVE NONE OF THEE ABOVE!!!!!!!!! They have a coach who turned on his headcoach to get the position, and got people motivated (momentarily) by threatening to cut them I’m sure. The Rams have not 1 player capable of motivating his fellow troops and keeping him and his teammates close. And before anyone second guesses what I just said, if you look at any sport, the team that wins championships have heart and dedication towards each other first, then on the field. Holt is too much of a nerd, Bulger is too much of a wimp, Pace simply needs to sit his fat a** down (soft on the inside and out), Leonard Little is too stupid to know when, who, and how to lead. And Action Jackson (who’s hurt and not helping his team because he missed training camp and preseason snaps) hasn’t shown anything on the field but running his mouth about speakers in the dome.
I believe the Cleveland Browns defeated the Hartford Weaky Pee Wees 115-0 back in 1949.
I’m with Than!
A 72-0 rout would be nice!! Lookin’ good, Rams!
If Bulger were a horse, they’d shoot him. As rotten as he is, this whole effort is just awful all around. It’s time for someone to throw in the towel…wait, I see Bulger and the whole defense standing there with white flags.
