Third Quarter: Trent Green Relieves Marc Bulger
After that horrible half, Jim Haslett had to make some changes. The 40 points was the second-most allowed in franchise history.
So Trent Green tagged in for Marc Bulger and led the St. Louis Rams downfield for a Josh Brown field goal. This wasn’t the best drive in team history, but it did stop the bleeding.
Samkon Gado tagged in for the fumble-prone Kenneth Darby and saw his first Rams action. He looked surprisingly good for a guy who didn’t go to camp with anybody this summer.
Good news on the injury front: Linebacker Will Witherspoon left the game after taking a blow to the head, but he returned.
It was a bit surprising to see Brett Favre start the second half for the New York Jets, but he should be grabbing some pine before long. Why risk an injury?
After allowing the Jets to score on their first seven possessions, the Rams defensive finally got a stop. Too bad this stop came during garbage time.

What a drag, they scored. Sure hope the Jets don’t pack it in…run up the score boys. So much for Bulger, second highest paid player in the NFL. That in itself is an obscenity. As Gordo has pointed out before, dumping Bulger will NOT affect salary cap (don’t ask me for the explanation). The owners have to eat that $65 million contract though. I’m sure that hurts big time. Still, the team just has to move on from the Bulger era.
