Forty-Niners Rally For 17-16 Victory
Can you believe this?
The Rams gave the 49ers a chance to beat them, bowing out with a three-and-out offensive sequence late in the fourth quarter.Two carries by Steven Jackson didn’t get far, then Marc Bulger couldn’t connect with Torry Holt on third down.
San Francisco got the ball back with 2 minutes, 27 seconds left.
A completion to Bryant Johnson moved the ball to the Rams 48. Then Hill threw up a prayer and had it answered down the left sideline, with rookie 49ers receiver Josh Morgan coming up with the ball while crossing the goal-line in heavy traffic.
The Rams had three defensive backs in pursuit of two 49ers receivers, but they couldn’t come up with the ball. Why would they?
These are the Rams, after all.
The home team try to respond.
Donnie Avery caught a tipped fourth-down pass for a 17-yard gain and the saving first down. He did an amazing job with two feet down with an acrobatic play on the right sideline.
But why did the Rams run Jackson on a draw play on the next call? The 49ers came after Bulger and dumped Jackson for a three-yard loss.
Then came the obligatory interception thrown to 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown. The ball was behind Keenan Burton, who may or may not have run the wrong route.
That was that. San Francisco 17, Rams 16.
Seriously, you had to see this to believe it.
“Can you believe this?” Um, yes. Yes we can.
I heard it and I don’t believe it. I’ll give ‘em this much, this team can always find ways to man down, come from ahead and eke out a loss.
I saw it, Jeff. I have seen it all year, week after predictable week, where Marc Bulger shrugs his shoulders after another INT to kill a potential game winning drive. I am sick to death of hearing excuses regarding rookie receivers running wrong routes etc. THEN THROW IT TO LOOKER OR HOLT!!!!
Marc Bulger is utterly incapable of leading a professional football team. His salary is criminal. If he gave half of it back and stuck his head in a hole for the next 5 years, I’d say he was on the right path to make amends.
They had me scared for a bit. Thought they were going to screw up their draft position. Thank God the real Ram team showed up in the lst 5 minutes.
Of course I can belive it Im cracking up because when it was 16-3 I just knew we were going to lose 17-16 Bulger is the biggest waste of a qb I have ever seen in 30 yrs of watching football.
even with a lead this team cannot finish when it needs to, the last score for us killed us instead of the 9ers we left the door open for victory this is the worst season for sure 2-14 here we come!
Ray, this is hardly the fault of Bulger. Maybe on those days you aren’t quite up to par on your job you can stick your head in a hole and give half of your salary back.

You did not have to see it to believe it. I kept checking on the game because I EXPECTED it.
