Third Quarter: Colts Push Lead To 28-6

The Rams moved the ball into Indianapolis territory on their opening possession of the second half. On a key third-down conversion, Bulger gunned a completion to Donnie Avery over the middle.

But then they hit the force field, again, and had to punt the ball back to the explosive Colts.

Donnie Jones pinned them on their 2-yard-line and the Rams defense was able to get Colts off the field after one first down.

Steven Jackson’s 12-yard run moved the Rams back into Colts territory. Then his 11-yard run moved them to the edge of scoring position. Then his 13-yard run moved the ball to the Indy 24.

But that is as far as the Rams got. First Samkon Gado (!) got stuffed on a first-down run, then Bulger got sacked by a hoard of Colts pouring into the Rams pocket.

So the Rams settled for Josh Brown’s 45-yard field goal, which cut the Colts lead to 21-6.

Colts receiver Reggie Wayne got back into the game for the second half, in time to move the chains with a nice catch at the Colts 43.

With the Colts catching the Rams off guard with their no-huddle scheme, Austin Collie took a quick pass to the left flat downfield for a 17-yard gain. But the Rams defense stiffened at its 39, forcing Indy to punt the ball away.

But then Bulger gave the Colts a touchdown, rifling a pass to cornerback Jacob Lacey along the right sideline. Lacey picked off the pass in stride and romped into the end zone.

That pushed the Colts lead to 28-6.

The Rams came back down the field by pounding Steven Jackson time and again, but they are running out of time to convert his big ground gains into points.

OK. Time for everyone to accept the fact that Bulger can’t hack it. Last I looked his QB rating for today was an awesome 50.9. I will repeat what many others have been asking - when will Null get a chance to get in a game so the coaching staff can see what he has? It has already been established that we can lose with Bulger at the helm. Null couldn’t possibly be much worse; but if he is, at least that helps firm up that we will need to get a QB through the draft. So I keep wondering, will Null ever see some game action?

Why does the announcer keep blaming Burton for Bulger’s shortcomings? The guys got no arm! As bad as this Rams team is, they don’t suck nearly as bad as these CBS announcers.

Putting Null in to “see what he has” is fruitless. You can’t see what he has when he has nothing to work with.

Putting Null in isn’t going to change anything. Another draft and $20 million in freed dead cap space will hopefully start to.
