The Jose Canseco Party, Cont.

  • Email this
  • Print this

It just keeps getting worse for Roger Clemens. The New York Daily News published this little tidbit on the infamous Jose Canseco Party that Clemens denied attending:

“The Daily News has learned that in the days since the Feb. 13 public hearing on steroids in baseball, another major leaguer has informed congressional investigators that Clemens often joked in the clubhouse about a memorable account of the party — a scene in which Debbie Clemens and Canseco’s ex-wife Jessica compared the results of their surgical breast enhancements.”

Ouch. First Clemens exposed his wife as a juicer, then he unwittingly place her “enhancements” into the public discussion. Not good.

The Rocket showed up at the Astros camp to watch his son Koby work out. He waved off questions about his raging steroid/HGH controversy.

“I think you ought to be asking baseball questions,” Clemens said. “I think it’s time to move on and get on with baseball.”

Yeah, well, good luck with that. IRS special agents are on the case now and odds are, this is NOT going to end well for Clemens.

MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

Questions to ponder while waiting for Cam Janssen to start his first riot for his hometown Blues:

With the remaining talent the Blues put on the ice for every game, how do they avoid scoring goals?

Will T.J. Oshie fix this next season? Can Patrick Berglund help?

Shouldn’t there be a law preventing Sam Zell from selling naming writes to Wrigley Field?

NEEDLESSLY GRAPHIC ANECDOTE OF WEEK

Interim Indiana coach Dan Dakich once held Michael Jordan to 13 points while playing for Hoosiers coach Bob Knight. He told Chicago’s WSCR radio how that assignment came down:

“I didn’t know until 3½ hours before the game. Coach came in and he told me, and he got a really sick look on his face when he told me. He was like, ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but Dakich, you’ve got Jordan.’

“And I don’t blame him. It should have been like, ‘Isiah, you’ve got Jordan.’ But it was me. I had had the flu all week. Long story short, when he told me that, I went back to my hotel room and threw up. I just walked in. Truly, I looked at my body when I walked in the hotel room. There was a mirror right there, and I looked at myself. I started thinking about Michael Jordan, and I knew it was going to be on Ch. 2 up in Chicago and all my friends, my relatives were going to see it. Honest to God, I just threw up right there all over the carpet.”

QUIPS ‘R US

Here is what some of America’s leading sports pundits have been writing:

Mark Kriegel, FoxSports.com: “I’d love to tell you that the heavyweight unification bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Sultan Ibragimov was an epic battle. Unfortunately, I’ve seen more aggressiveness from yoga moms in Santa Monica. And you wonder why people are paying money to watch Kimbo Slice?”

Dan Daly. Washington Times: “Go ahead and laugh. A decade from now, the only unpleasant memory Hoosier fans will have of Knight will be those checked sport coats he used to wear.”

Scott Ostler
, San Francisco Chronicle: “Sure, the Mitchell Report and the Roger Clemens debacle have been embarrassing to major-league baseball. But in pain there is gain. From now on, ballplayers will be a lot more careful about how they get their HGH.”

Jay Mariotti
, Chicago Sun-Times, on the greatness of Tiger Woods: “Anything is possible this year because he has mind-whipped every competitor. We used to see (Michael) Jordan mentally abuse foes, but Woods has crushed the collective psyche of the entire field seemingly to the point of no return. His so-called rival in the Accenture final, Stewart Cink, sounded like an awed schoolboy on the eve of the match . . . So when Woods routed him, what else was Cink left to do but wonder if he’s human?”

Greg Cote, Miami Herald: “A new edict by Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez: No boom boxes or loud music in the clubhouse. It is to avoid conflict ‘where one guy wants to listen to 50 Cent and the other wants Sinatra,’ he said. Yeah, nothing pumps you up for a game like a little Strangers in the Night.”

MEGAPHONE

“I’m not an ordinary fighter, I’m a risk taker. I’m always working. I’m the best athlete in the world.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr., on why he signed on with the WWE for Wrestlemania 24.

Sorry Gordo…I am not buying your spin on the Janssen deal.

I admit that I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer…but the bottom line is that JD gave up an “asset” for an injured goon that will not help this team score any goals.

We don’t want anyone who “will be great to have in the community.” We want guys who can shoot, skate and score!!

Janssen was a money saving deal. The Blues new they were not going to give Salvador the money he wanted so they traded him for any player they could get. It is better than just letting him walk at the end of the season.

I agree Bill but I still think they could have gotten something a little more useful…even a draft pick would have offered more. If this team gets speed and scoring all over the ice you won’t need goons because no other team will play one against us. We need scoring, especially if you are going to lose a veteran defenseman in the process (albeit one of limited value given his erratic play since Pronger left).

Roger Clemens HOF chances, RIP.

I guess golf is not the mind-enhancing, focused, mental sport that we were all led to believe growing up. I was always told it was as much metal toughness as talent. I can’t believe there isn’t one guy that can’t push himself to challenge Tiger. Yes he is damn good, but every week he stomps on the opposition? It’s embarrassing.

I understand that Missouri State, formerly SMSU, is 200 miles from St. Louis, but there are many alumni living St. Louis. I can tell you that over half the student population (around 15,000) is from the St. Louis area, or end up in the St. Louis area for careers. Why can’t we have one article about there basketball team? They upset Drake (20) last night and there’s not a single headline about it on the sports page. I know they aren’t that good this year, but even when they were good the previous three years (when they got cheated out of the tourney) they hardly even mentions them. FYI this is where ’06 NL MVP Ryan Howard went to college!

A Mizzou fart gets more attention than an upset by MO St.

I’ll get off my soapbox now!

Missouri St. Alum February 27

That’s because all the “reporters” at the Post-Digrace are Mizzou alum. It might hurt their shared brain cell to think about anything other than what goes on at Columbia.

Excellent point Bill!

DJ get Mizzou’s ***** out of your mouth. It won’t help their BB team any! You should have started before they suspended all their convicts, oops, I mean players. Then they might have stayed out of those “clubs”.

It would be one thing if I came on here everyday and bitched about it. This is the first I’ve mentioned it! My point is yesterday they write this BS article that MU still has a chance to make the tourney, then they lose last night and what do you know another story about how MU blew their chances, when everyone who didn’t go to MU knew they wouldn’t make it anyway. Meanwhile, MO St. upsets a top 25 team and doesn’t even get a sidenote! SIU gets more publicity than MO St. and it’s not even located in the same state. That doesn’t bother me as much though, because I support the MVC. Mizzou is a joke and every year when MO St. AD contacts MU’s they decline to play us, because they know if they lose they are going to lose recruits!

I guess your next argument is going to be about how good MU’s football team is, and how they got screwed! I think they had it coming! They had two chances to beat Oklahoma! They decided their own fate! You can’t trust the BCS to put you in the National Championship! Everyone knows that, even most MU fans, I suspect!

FU MU!

Gordo,

Jannsen? Just what we need, another Goon. They could have at least received a draft pick for Sally. When will we get someone to put the biscuit in the basket. And Mizzou last night - last 2 minutes, we knew they would choke, standing around on offense. Please, let this season be over quick and remove the thugs from the team.

Also hear that the Birds have set the Spring Training record for long and soft tossing.

Tim,
The reason that Tiger is blowing everyone away IS his mental toughness. It is his ability to look at a situation where everyone else would give up and come through. A great example would be last Wednesday when he was 3 holes down to J.B. Holmes with 5 to play and managed to comeback and win. It wasn’t that the other player choked, he made all pars in those holes, it was just that Tiger mentally didn’t give up. Athleticism is a key component, but he is leaps and bounds more mentally tough than any of those players.

Gordo, I would be happy to wear the Blue Note as well but that doesn’t mean I can play…

I really thought that trade would lead to another move or two – makes you scratch your head that nothing else was done…

Weird to see Rolen in that Jays jersey. I know there is plenty of blame to go around on this (especially with management since they did nothing to put a stop to it) but TLR really doesn’t look good after all the dust has settled…

Missouri State doesn’t get coverage because no one cares. Trying to compare Mizzou athletics and MSU atletics is a joke. Bear fans have an inferiority complex.

Salvador was NOT that good people. Anyways, Janssen is a complete badass. You’ll all be singing a different tune when you see him play.

12:30 pm February 27th, 2008

Are you sure we’re the one with the inferiority complex? Wasn’t it MU that blocked Missouri State’s name change for over two decades? You don’t need to check, it was! I don’t disagree, with you ”Tyler” (funny you use one of Brad Pitt’s character names, considering he’s from Springfield). All I’m saying is that there are people here in the St. Louis area who do care! Yesterdays upset made the headlines on ESPN.com’s NCAAMBB page, but it’s not even mentioned on the Post’s page. I agree MU has a much better atheletics department, than MO St. A lot of that has to do with the people MO St. has in place doing the recruiting. Barry Hinson refuses to recruit outside of southern Missouri, northern AR, eastern OK. He doesn’t like getting too far from home! I have spoken to other Alum who were BB players, and they have stated that he doesn’t even make them show up for practice, if they don’t want to. Can’t believe he got an extension!

The Blues proved yesterday they are packing it in for the season. Yesterday’s move was a way to dump money and bring on a local guy people will still come watch eventhough they won’t make the playoffs. They weren’t going to make the playoffs anyway, why not dump $ and watch a local kid beat the crap out of his opponents

I don’t get it. If Mizzou still had a chance to get into the big dance, playing an evenly matched conference rival on a Wednesday night when there is absolutely nothing else to do, why was the arena half empty? Has this program lost ALL of it’s luster?

Corby I don’t disagree with you on Tiger. His mental toughness is amazing, and he is a practice fiend, hitting hundreds of golf balls a day. He practices the tough ones especially, like buried bunker shots, so that at crunch time he kows what to expect.

It’s the lack of this by anyone else that amazes me. I guess second place at 120 grand a pop is enough for most people to live with mediocrity…

Actually my degree says Missouri State University. FYI one of the top 100 business schools in the country! Don’t hate me because I’m educated. Hate your parents because you’re not! I highly recommend UMSL for you (University of Missouri for Slow Learners). You could go to Lindenwood if you really want an easy degree, but it’s pretty expensive.

Here’s a question that hopefully some of you can shed some light on; When Clemens and McAaname testified before congress, Republicans took the side of Clemens while Democrats took the side of McAanamee. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to why this seemingly bipartisan issue wound up partisan? Just curious as to what people are thinking.

— Roid Scratcher
1:54 pm February 27th, 2008

I think Roger pretty much said it himself. ”If former President Bush didn’t have any problems finding me in a deer stand, to give me his support, I don’t know why the Mitchell investigators couldn’t.”

That right there told me he had the elephants on his side.

Apparently the Bush family thinks its ok to cheat if you’re a ‘good ole boy’ from Texas. Somehow I doubt Barry Bonds got the same phone call!

My question is why did Lacy Clay side with the republicans? It was apparent to me as a normal citizen that even while McNamee is shady character, the fact that Pettite said he used should have set the alarms off. And why would he throw those softballs at Roger when he came down so hard on McGwire on the same issue? It didn’t make any sense! At least McGwire didn’t lie, he just chose not to talk at all, and I don’t blame him. He wasn’t parading around saying he didn’t use. He just chose not to run his mouth to defend himself against allegation that were likely true, unlike Roger who’s ego prevented him from being honest!

What’s with all the hate on Missouri State today? Isn’t there enough room for two big state universities in this state? It works fine everywhere else.

IE:
Oklahoma, Oklahoma St.
Michigan, Michigan St.
Kansas, Kansas St.
Iowa, Iowa St.
Etc., Etc.

RE 31:

Unlike Oklahoma State, Michigan State, Kansas State, and Iowa State, as well as THE Ohio State University, Missouri State does not compete in an athletic conference which contains the word “Big” in its name. Big 12 and Big 10(as well as Big East) get more attention from the networks because of the quality of their conferences and competition.
