PM Update: Calling Michael Strahan

Tipsheet was really looking forward to seeing Michael Strahan as an NFL commentator for Fox Sports this season. The man can definitely bring opinions.

But circumstances may force him back into the field. New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora suffered a season-ending knee injury, leaving the team without a pass rush. Linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka will move to defensive end, but is he really the answer?

Giants fans are clamoring for Strahan to un-retire. A lot of players are pulling for his return as well – and the New York Daily News reports that he would consider coming back for $8 million this season.

Strahan, who has been vacationing in Greece, turned down a $6 million Giants offer during the offseason.

“If the Giants make a sincere overture, it’s a good chance that Strahan would consider coming back,” a source told the Daily News. “There are other things he has to take into consideration: the money and his contract with Fox.

“But if the Giants really want him, they have a shot. It’s not out of the question.”

Elsewhere on the retired defensive line front, former sackmaster Warren Sapp has been tabbed for one of the slots in “Dancing with the Stars.” It will be interesting to see if Sapp is shrinking or expanding during his postseason days.

The other contestants will include Olympic beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor, former sprinter Maurice Greene, Reggie Bush’s girlfriend Kim Kardashian, soaps star Susan Lucci and 900-year-old actress Cloris Leachman.

Here is Marshall Faulk’s take on that:

Strahan should stay retired. Go out on top, baby! You will make plenty of money from Fox over the years.
